Spirits during house move...

So we never experienced anything abnormal in our house until a week before we moved out... is that normal?

Now normally my husband is the type to forbid any type of scary talk, so it was surprising when even he mentioned what he was experiencing.

Some of the things that happened were:

Hearing footsteps running up the stairs. My husband shouting my name asking if it was me, but I’d been sat in livingroom.

One night he experienced sleep paralysis and could only move when he heard me whispering in his ear

My family was spending a week with us at the time because we were moving abroad and my sister in law got up around 5am to go bathroom and she heard running up the stairs and me screaming. She thought someone had broke into the house and she locked herself in the bathroom and then realised she didn’t have her phone so she couldn’t phone anyone for help (I mean that’s how realistic the sounds were to her)

Same night (I think) I felt someone walk past the bed and knock it. I thought it was my husband and when I looked back he was fast asleep in bed.

So my question is, did our last week in our house unsettle something? Or was this all just a weird coincidence that could be explained? Hoping for the latter :)

We had some weird things happen when we moved into a new house. We was living in both houses and the weird things happened in the old house. The only reasonable explanation is sleep walking but we have never been known to do that.

I wish someone had been sleepwalking 😂
So was the same things happening when you moved or was it different kind of strange going ons?

We experienced odd things when we moved out of my childhood home. We’d lived there as a family for 15-20 years and had never experienced anything unusual there at all.
I know there were several things that happened but I can’t remember all of them. The only thing I specifically remember was an extremely strong smell that would come and go with no explanation. We thought maybe there was a spirit there that was unsettled that we were leaving.

Shamelessly bumping this!

This probably sounds daft but I felt like I was pushed down the stairs. My husband asked me to charge his mobile up as it's his alarm clock. I remember unplugging it from charging and putting it next to his bed. It was on the dining table in the morning and we all over laid. In the new house we was standing at the top of the stairs about 9pm and heard someone say goodbye really clearly. Its detached and our two neighbours front or back doors are a good 20m from where we was standing, inside, alone with the double glazed windows shut. It all happened in the same week.

I always feel someone brush past my feet in the morning or at night when I'm awake if my foot hangs over the end of the bed and have been prodded hard in my arm or back during the day ( not sure if the bed thing is really being more asleep then you think or the prodding is a weird nerve thing). But I swear the mobile was moved. It wasnt scary, more kind of tension feeling?

Anyway i talk to my new house now, it makes me feel better even if it's all just vivid imagination. I'm more scared someone is walking about moving things while asleep

I was absolutely petrified. I refused to leave any of my children in rooms on their own, even during the daytime.
At first I wasnt scared, but the house started feeling very tense and creepy to me.

That’s terrifying @IncessantNameChanger

Does anyone else believe if in fact it is unsettled spirits, that it’s probably due to the fact they are threatened by us leaving and someone new coming in?

Are you finding it upsetting to leave? Have you felt strong emotions in relation to the move? I think the upheaval of a move certainly can prompt strange experiences and phenomena.

Maybe the ghosts are excited and getting prepared for the new owners or if you watch BBC Ghosts they tried to scare the new owners in the first week and then gave up Grin

I think some of this can be explained by moving house being a very stressful time eg disturbed sleep.

Also, when you pack up a house, the sounds you are familiar with sound different, because the rooms are emptier and more echoey, and you can hear planks in wooden floors expand and contract more distinctly.

Having said all of that, I did call in a priest to bless a house we moved to because of the oppressive atmosphere and it seemed to work well and lightened the feeling inside a couple of "heavy" rooms.

The scariest thing here is that your husband ‘forbids’ you to speak of scary things IN YOUR OWN HOUSE. Why do you accept that another person can tell you what to speak about ????

TheChip · 06/09/2021 11:32

Apparently they do stir up during renovations or changes and shit. So maybe that's what it is. Maybe theyre saying goodbye in their own way, or want you to be sure to say goodbye to them before you leave.

@victoriaspongecake because he’s a scaredy cat 😂
