Unfortunately I've got none of my own.
Any supernatural, spooky, poltergeist, ghosts or unexplained tales to tell...? 😱

There's a ghost in my house. The house I rent is an old Victorian semi and I have often heard footsteps walking up the stairs when I'm alone in the house. When I first moved in, I thought "oh no, burglars!" and went to look, but there was nothing there. The ghost also sets off the smoke alarms occasionally, which is irritating but otherwise harmless. I'm not scared, I just let it do its thing and ignore it. 😆

Any more?

I watched The Enfield Haunting recently, based on the Enfield Poltergeist. I found the actual house with strange message in the window. I imagine they must know the background Shock

Am I missing any ghost threads today?

I was walking along a coastal path with a friend, in an area reputedly haunted (though we didn’t know it at the time) when a sort of mist rushed out of the trees, passed between us and vanished. We stopped and looked at each other, both asked ‘did you see that?’ but couldn’t work it out. It was as if a person had passed between us but it was definitely a sort of low lying mist. To this day I have no idea what it was!

We live in a house, have done for 11 months, which is only 20 years old. We have a long lounge diner, and each evening I see a dark shadow figure moving around the dining area and feel distinctly watched.
When I was a child, me and my parents moved to a 50’s house... and it was utterly spooky. I would always say ‘I’m not scared of you’ as I passed a particular room... as, I later found out, would my mum. My dad, very non woo, would always found things moved and always felt someone behind him in the kitchen. I had awful dreams, age 7, where I would ‘wake’ and look out my window to see skeletons digging their way up out of our back garden. I hadn’t had any trauma as a child I’d seen horror films!😂 ....my mums friend said he saw a ghost of a woman in Saxon clothing in our lounge. We moved , because it just had a bad feeling, always. After we moved, we all compared our feelings and experiences and found they were shared. We also learnt that the estate had been built on a Saxon burial ground, and the road next to us had high ‘poltergeist’ activity.

LavenderBee · 31/12/2020 10:07

Meant to say that as a child I hadn’t seen horror films!

scryingeyes · 31/12/2020 15:24

Spooky!

Carlottagiudicelli · 02/04/2021 23:24

Any more ghosts 👻 ?

When I was a teenager we were haunted by a poltergeist.
The taps would turn on full blast in the middle of the night. We'd be woken up by the noise.
My sister once came home from school and felt someone push her up the stairs. She assumed it was my brother and turned round to give him a serve, only to see him dawdling half way down the street.
Creepiest if all was the garden gnome, which would move around at night. It would turn about face and move a foot or so the left or right, so not something an animal could do. One summer my mother out it behind a massive web of golden orb weavers. There is no way any prankster was crawling around in that garden bed. Yet it still moved.
Golden orbs are common spider in northern Australia, they build these huge webs with dozens of adult spiders spaced throughout, my daughter calls them spider hotels. The adults are large enough to take out a small bird or bat. In the day you can see the web and go round it. There's no way you'd go near it at night just to prank your family.
A lot of other stuff happened and we still talk about it to this day.

DoingTheBestICan · 03/04/2021 11:44

That's really creepy, gnomes moving in the night!! Please tell your other stuff.

TheVolturi · 05/04/2021 20:39

A few years ago I went to stay with a friend in another country. My friend wasn't able to pick me up from the airport so I took a taxi to her house. The driver stopped a few houses away and refused to take me directly to my friend's house. He said there had been several murders at the house and the rumours were that it was haunted. My friend hadn't mentioned that so I was suspicious but was too tired to argue and walked the short distance to the house. The house felt off but I thought I had just been spooked by the taxi driver so I didn't think much about it and spent the afternoon mostly in the garden catching up with my friend. That evening things got weird. There was no one in the house except me and my friend but my stuff kept moving and I felt I was being watched like I wasn't alone in my bedroom. My suitcases were not where I had left them. I would start brushing my hair, hear a weird noise, put my hair brush down to go investigate the noise, find nothing and then go back to brush my hair but the hair brush was gone. I turned on the bathroom light and then went back into my bedroom to get something and went back to find the bathroom light turned off. I went to get a bath but I couldn't find my face wash then my towel moved from the towel rail to across the bathroom near the sink. Things kept moving and disappearing and turning on and off. I couldn't relax because I just felt I wasn't alone and at one point I thought I heard a voice whisper 'I'll kill you' but the water was running and there was a vent fan on so I assumed I had imagined it. After the bath and quickly changing clothes I met with my friend downstairs for a nightcap and chat. I told her what the taxi driver had said and about the weird happenings upstairs. She said she hadn't planned to tell me in case I refused to visit her but that's how she had managed to afford such a large nice house because she bought it from the estate of the family who had been murdered in the house. Shock Apparently the daughter's boyfriend had become obsessed with her and when he had proposed marriage she said no and started seeing someone else. The boyfriend somehow got into the house and lived hidden for a few weeks tormenting the family by moving their things around and creeping about in the house at night. Finally one night he killed them all the daughter, the two sons, the mother and father.
So who kept moving my things around and watching me? My friend thought the boyfriend was still alive and in prison so she had always assumed that the ghosts of the family were still in the house but I couldn't understand why they would be doing to people in the house what the boyfriend had done to them. So I looked up the story about the boyfriend and it turned out he had died by suicide not long after he went into prison. I believe it was the boyfriend's ghost who was still in the house. No way I could sleep so I stayed up all night with my friend and left early the next day and booked into a nearby hotel.
My friend says every time she has visitors there is more activity but every time a man visits her the activity increases even more. A couple years after I visited her her father visited her and had a heart attack at night in the house even though he had no previous heart problems. It could be completely unconnected but I'm not sure. I think it was the boyfriend trying to kill the only man who's stayed over night in the house since my friend bought it.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 12/04/2021 08:53

@butitsmyinsurance that is terrifying, given me the heebie jeebies that has!

gazeratstars · 12/04/2021 14:43
Shock
gorillalegs · 12/04/2021 14:47

Place marking, love these.

Mine isn't at all spooky and I really don't believe in woo but after recently losing my dad, my mum is adamant that a toiletry product of his in the bathroom keeps moving. She swears she has never touched it. I hope it is him letting her know he's still around.

scream why would you move into that house??!!
cakefanatic · 28/04/2021 14:33

My student house was a bit odd. Typical spooky house stuff - big old Victorian, strange noises, that odd feeling of hearing general house goings on and then later realising nobody else is actually at home. I found it quite unnerving sometimes, but I found my bedroom to actually be quite calm and peaceful.

At one point, for reasons I can’t remember, I lifted the corner of the carpet. There were runes carved into the floor - all around the room and all around the door frame. A friend who was into all of the woo identified them as ‘runes of protection’ ...

VeganCheeseandWine · 16/05/2021 14:35

@2020wish your story proper gave me the chills!!

VeganCheeseandWine · 16/05/2021 14:58

About 9 years ago, my then boyfriend now husband and I went to look after his brother and now ex-wife's house while they went on honeymoon. We were poor students and both lived at home so a week alone in a house was a welcome thing!
Anyway, the house just felt really odd. Not bad just weird. Like I was never alone when I was by myself. On my first day there I was changing a bin when the kettle started boiling by itself.
A few days in, I was upstairs while my husband and and his brother (he's one of four) were outside working on his motorbike. I heard footsteps going upstairs, the bathroom door opening and the taps turning on. I think I shouted to see if whoever it was wanted a cup of tea as I was about to make one but there was no answer. But the door was open and the taps were on and running!
A few months later I spoke with my then SiL about what had happened and she told me she had always felt something and frequently saw an old lady around the house! She didn't stay too long at the house as even though there was no malicious feeling it still freaked her out too much.

CheerfulBunny · 16/05/2021 15:04

OK, not me but an ex work colleague told me about her strange experience. It seemed unlikely to be made up as she was quite a devout Christian but anyway.. when she was younger, she'd been on a night out and stayed the night with a female friend. They were sharing the same double bed and my colleague had woken up in the middle of the night. When she looked towards the end of the bed she saw an old man standing at the foot of the bed, looking at her. She said he was wearing pyjamas and 'just looked awful'. Here's the bit I don't understand though. Instead of screaming or running away, she just pulled the covers over her head - and waited for him to go away. She said she didn't want to wake her friend.
In the morning, she found out that the friend’s father had died in the house.
