Unfortunately I've got none of my own.
Any supernatural, spooky, poltergeist, ghosts or unexplained tales to tell...? 😱

We had a cat who loved the house so that always gave us comfort. But it felt like a horrible place.
Oppressive, unfriendly.
Honestly I've never, ever been so scared. To know something is watching you and can interact....I still feel sick thinking about it
I tell this story to friends and most are like that's ridiculous and I'm either not believed or they think it's silly, I suppose if I was going to make it up I wouldn't use such a ridiculous story

So one day I decide to do some baking. I have a baking cupboard and the last item I put in the cupboard is the flour. I know this because I remember doing it.
The next evening, home alone I decide to do some more baking (loads of Bananas need using up).
It's about 8pm, my housemates are out and it's a good time to be in the kitchen
I start baking ...when it gets to the flour it's not in the cupboard, it's nowhere. I know I've put it in the cupboard as the last item but I open every cupboard, I look in the fridge, I am utterly frustrated and in anger I say "ffs just give me the flour back" or something like that. I leave the kitchen to get a clear head and try to think logically.
However it dawn's on me I shouldn't have said that, I felt sick. I didn't want to go back into the kitchen.
It must've been 2 mins max before I go back in to the kitchen. I turn the corner and
Well the radio has turned off and there, in the middle of the kitchen unit is the bag of flour. There is nothing else on the unit. It's slap bang in the middle....I shit myself there and then!
And then it gets weirder....

What happened?

In this house we were in it was common to hear conversations, sort of whispered so you knew it was people talking but you couldn't make out what they were saying, say, on the stair or in a corridor or behind a door, but then when you go there it would stop.

Also being watched and being brushed, like a touch but like a hand touching you with its back side and not the palm.

My dad saw shadow figures but he didn't say anything because he didn't want to scare my mother.

We left the day after my brother was shoved or tripped or whatever it was.

I always thought haunted houses were a joke.
So I was petrified because all of a sudden it felt like this thing was playing with me, it was a conscious being.
It was late and I remember a Friday. I just grabbed my things and ran to my car
It was a combination of 18 months of weirdness.
I sat in my car and cried!
I phoned my mum who said I needed a priest ...it was about 10pm on a Friday.
So how do you find a priest ,at 10pm on a Friday evening?
I drove around and decided I'd sit in Macdonald's all night until my housemate came home.
It was kinda surreal as it was at night and I was driving about. I went to sit in a car park and there was a building with a light on. I didn't know at first what it was until I could see the sign for Spiritualist church
It was literally the only light on. So I knocked on the door because I thought what are the changes
I've never been to a Spiritualist church, I'm not a church goer.
They saw my distress and brought me in.
Honestly this is who I needed because they believed me, they told me there were several spirits in the house. They meant no harm.
They said bringing the flour to you was a gesture as you'd asked for it.
Anyway they did some kinda bless and told me to go home, thank the spirits but ask them to leave.

I did all of this and it worked!
I do think it was crazy I ended up finding a Spiritualist church, the only place open to help me

One from my parents. In our family there is an old clock that chimes and it was a wedding present to my Great Grandparents. It was one that needed winding up. My parents let it go flat when I was a child as I had insomnia and hated hearing it chime every half an hour. They stored it in their bedroom on the top of the wardrobe - never chimed or anything. Prior to the clock being given to my Dad it was in the possession of my Great Aunt - my Aunt never had children and was close to my Dad. On the night of my Great Aunt's funeral, my parents were in their bedroom and the clock began to chime of its own accord. My parents cannot explain it as the clock had not chimed in years and it didn't do it again until they decided to wind it up again.

When I was in my twenties I arranged to stay over at a friend’s house in Islington. The house was large and imposing and my friend was renting with 3 other young women.

After our night out and as we were getting ready for bed my friend let me know that the house was haunted, which I wasn’t bothered by at all. She then went onto say that of the 4 renters the ghost did not like anyone being in her room apart from her. My friend slept on an air mattress and I was in her bed. We spoke for a while and then stopped and switched the light off. I then felt someone tuck me in very, very tightly and could feel someone standing over me. I froze but eventually managed to untuck myself, all the while I could feel resistance. I leapt out of the bed and my friend was fast asleep. I saw a dark shadow in the corner of her room.

I got dressed and went home straightaway. It was a horrible experience and when I spoke to my friend about it the next day she said her boyfriend refused to stay overnight and even her mother refused to stay over. I still don’t fully believe in woo, but that was a strange night.

bevelino omg this is horrific!

When I was a teenager, we were camping up near Blackpool. The campsite had a horrible, heavy atmosphere. Its really hard to explain but I felt inexplicably sad there. On the second night I was wide awake and heard a child's voice saying 'it hurts' over and over again. There was no other sounds, no adult voice with the child and we were camped far from anyone. When I unzipped the camper door there was a white shadow/light by the awning window. It was terrifying and I felt the strange atmosphere before this happened.

LarkLaneLove · 21/08/2020 16:19

My best friend and I lived in a flat that was haunted in the 90s. It was a ground floor flat in a victorian house.
As soon as we moved in we both felt that the atmosphere was oppressive and heavy - it was very cold even when warm outside, lights would be on when we came in even though we had turned them off, things would fall off the wall / move without us being able to explain it, footsteps in the corridor at night. I was scared of sleeping there alone and would have to drink a bottle of wine to put myself to sleep if my flatmate was away. One of our friends had had a lot of woo experiences and commented straight away on how oppressive it felt when she visited, even though we hadn't told her anything.
Also off the corridor that led to the kitchen there was a door leading down to the basement which was huge, as big as the flat - really dark flight of stairs and then this huge basement. We always used to keep the door to the basement locked as it freaked us out so much. My flatmate also felt someone stroking her shoulder and tucking her in - which she said was not scary, even though the atmosphere in the flat felt threatening and malevolent - even writing about it 25 years later gives me chills! We were quite friendly with the landlady who lived in a house across the road and we asked her if the flat was haunted and she said definitely - apparently an old lady lived in there and died in front of the front door, which the police had to break open after the neighbours became concerned they hadn't seen her, and her body was blocking the door.
Then one day we came home from uni and both went into our separate rooms - my friend came to get me 2 mins later and there was wet ink splodges all over her room - on her curtains, walls, records etc - as if you'd shaken a fountain pen all over, it was still wet and make ink stains on our hands when we touched it. We didn't have a blue fountain pen in the house so to this day have no idea how the ink got there.
We then got broken into for the second time and just felt unsafe and scared in the house all the time so moved out (even the police commented on how cold the flat was when they came round).
The strangest thing in all this is that during this whole time, our landlady was involved in a very bitter divorce with her ex, who had a new partner. He wanted her to sell the house she lived in which they owned jointly and move back into our flat (which was hers) with her children and she wouldn't. The ex had a new partner who was a witch and practised black magic, and we've wondered if she has somehow cursed the flat - we still speak about it to this day as it was one of their weirdest experiences of our lives. My friend is very sensible and non-woo (unlike me) but even she was totally spooked and to this day can't explain any of it.

I have quite a few. My mum and dad moved into their first bought home around 1995. I was 7, I had 2 younger siblings (brother at 6, sister 3). They still own the house today.. no one will stay more than one night as it always seemed to be overly active when new people stay. It took us years to settle in the house eventually... they paranormal activity still happens but my mum and dad sort of put their foot down after years of torment and regained ‘ownership ‘ of the house again. I couldn’t possibly recount everything that’s happened but here’s a few..

Within the first few months of moving in and the house being redecorated, my brother toy police man hat went missing.. no big deal.. but to him was the end of the world lol my parents put it down to just being left at his Arse somewhere. Few weeks later my cousin was allowed to stay over, she was 9. Parents down stairs painting into all hours of the night and let us kids stay up late playing.. and best game ever to play is hide and go seek in the dark. My dad lend us his torch and we had free reign of upstairs and made the place pitch black. Me and my cousin were it. We eventually found my brother and sister in my mums bed hiding and jumped on them in the dark then all sat laughing until my brother starting crying.. when we Turned to see what it was there was a figure standing at the cupboard door , completely black... no features.. like a shadow.. but it was wearing his police hat.. I quickly put the flash light on it and it didn’t disappear. We all ended up frantically screaming and crying and fighting for the furthest corner of the bed and the blankets..and when we eventually got under the blankets it was proper panic and shaking and the sweat.. honestly we were petrified. We dared each other to peak out first to see if the room was clear.. me and my cousin being the oldest said we would do it together and the figure was now at the foot of the bed.. honestly my life felt like it left me and I just ran for door switched the light on and ran downstairs with everyone following me. I’m sure we didn’t make sense to my parents through the tears.. but of course we were told it was shadow from outside and to not taken seriously.. my brothers hat turned up in his room over the next week. I’m 32 now and me and my cousin still talk about the day. My brother can remember parts of it but my sister nothing.

The house got worse from there ... family memebers would see other family members walking into rooms and follow them only to find the room empty.. friends who called over to hang out experiences this also. Babysitters never came back a second time to babysit. Things would fly of the shelfs for no reason, radios turning on and off.. the younger I got around 12/13 I felt it tortured me at night.. my door handle would go at night.. I’d feel something sitting on my bed.. I ended up with a proper sleep disorder over my adolescent years due to fear of sleeping. A bad smell of rotten eggs would always come and go when something was happpening. It got to the point tho where even my brother would come down stairs randomly some days and announce that ‘it’ was in the front bedroom etc.
My first boyfriend that stayed over one night when my parents went away when I was around 16- I remember him waking me up in the middle of the night begging me to admit it was me.. I was so tired I ignored him and went on to sleep. Morning came and we got up and got ready as I had to go to school and him work, I noticed his eyes all red and tired but he said he was fine. It wasn’t until I got into school and he text me saying he was freaked out cause he woke in the middle of the night to his blankets being pulled off him and the feeling of something on his chest.. that’s when he had woke me asking me to admit it was me playing a prank.. he didn’t sleep the rest of the night. He didn’t stay with me the rest of the weekend as when he told his mum what happened she told him it would be wrong to leave me alone in the house. No friends ever stayed a second night and usually got picked up in the middle of night by their parents upset over an array of things happening

I always thought my parents didn’t believe any of us.. so me and friend picked up a silly spell book that had a simple spell of protection in it. And I never forget us sitting face to face and doing the spell over our house and family.
I didn’t know my mum tho that my mum and dad had been experiencing similar or worse in the house from the beginning and didn’t want to fighten us and had been having the house blessed etc when we were at school and that week she had booked to go to a physic for guidance.. well that physic apparently told her that her eldest daughter (me) had A gift .. my mum was like yes she’s very artistic.. and the physic said no, she had a gift like me and she’s carried out a simple cleansing on the house and to let her know it’s worked and that my parents also needed to re enforce their ownership of the house. I never forget that day my mum coming in at me freaked out shouting and demanding to see what I had done. But that’s when we had a good talk and realised everything that was going on. They have owned the house for around 27 years now and my dad still sleeps with his bedroom light on. Our whole street talks about that house. Their is a lot of history around the house too

2020wish · 23/09/2020 00:49

The older I got lol not younger

2020wish · 23/09/2020 00:50

Sorry my ex did stay with me the rest of the weekend

2020wish · 23/09/2020 00:54

I’ll add that the frequency and intensity of the activity decreased after the cleansing and my mum taking ownership but it still happens.. more so when other people come and hand out, stay over,
Not long ago we had a bbq in the house with family. My uncle went to use the loo upstairs and came running down the stairs looking like he was about to faint.. he was completely freaked and said he wasn’t going back inside and needed to go home. He wouldn’t even wait on a taxi and walked it. He’s never said what happened

I’ve got an unexplained happening; I was 25 and I‘d just moved into a new friends spare room as I’d found my boyfriend was cheating on me, so I was pretty upset. On three separate occasions, just as I was going to sleep, lights off, eyes closed, there was a sudden brilliant flash of light in the room, I sat up in bed each time and the light that filled the room faded away within half a minute. In the mornings I searched for the source, even exploring the attic above and getting a friend to check the electrics. In the end I suspected my new friend had done something like set off a camera flash as a joke, she denied it, but I haven’t been able to trust her since.

2020wish · 24/09/2020 02:04

@Toseland what made u think she set off a camera? As in did u have reason apart from the weird flashing

Years ago in the house I spoke about above, my parents had went away for the weekend. I was around 17 and had my cousin and my male friend stay over. We all slept in the same room because no one liked the house as it was. So we slept in my younger siblings room as it has bunk beds. Me and my cousin took the bunks and my male friend made a bed in the floor. We had the lights off trying to sleep but chatting quietly to each other as u do wen my male friend said he thought he seen movement under door and we all became a bit freaked out and ended up going quiet to listen. Then just like u the bedroom filled with a bright white blinding light like a flash like u described. I definitely pulled my blanket up over my head in shock. It went as quick as it came and we sort of sat in silence not having a clue what the hell just happened. None of us slept the rest of the night. We have spoke about it since and tried to come up with logical reasons but he truth was there was blackout blinds in the bedroom and it was so bright white we couldn’t see a thing in the room when it happened for it to be a passing car headlight. That bedroom was also at the back of the house that over looked another row of house and not near any roads

Oldsu · 24/09/2020 02:28

A couple of years ago a friend persuaded me to join a group of people on a ghost tour of a haunted house, I disliked the woman running the tour she was very bossy and I hate bossy people.

We were at the top of a beautiful staircase with wonderful wooden carved bannisters, everyone walked down the stairs but I stayed at the top examining the wood, miss bossy boots shouted up to me 'oh DO try and keep up' I muttered ' I really don't like you' then as clear as anything I heard a voice in my ear that said 'I don't like her either' there was no-one next to me or behind me and everyone else was at the foot of the stairs.

MairzyDoats · 24/09/2020 21:56

@Oldsu I really like that story - a ghost with a sense of humour! Grin

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 25/09/2020 13:00

202wish your parents house sounds terrifying! I don't think I'd have the nerve to set foot in the place!

Burnthurst187 · 12/10/2020 18:25

I was talking to a friend at work today about the Enfield Haunting that we've both watched at some point. He then said I believe in ghosts because I've seen one, Shock

He used to live in a flat with his ex and two DC aged 5 and 8. A girl early teens who was badly burnt was seen 4-5 times in the flat over the five years he lived there. He said one time he woke up and she walked through the bedroom. Another time she was seen sitting in the bath. He said DS said to him that he didn't like the lady in the wall. Things used to vanish to appear in odd places and the mirror that was bolted to the bathroom wall fell down so many times they just stopped having a mirror in there. He said he wouldn't stay in on his own

He found out that there was a train crash a very long time ago and ppl were killed where the block was now built. This is somebody I've known for five years and I know he was being serious, he's a serious person. Made the hairs on my arms stand up that for sure

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 22/10/2020 13:15

Bump for Halloween! 🎃

SallyCinnamon3009 · 22/10/2020 13:30

Years ago I used to work with a woman and she told me a story about a rented house she'd lived in. Typical haunted house things moved, flew off shelves. The bathroom light was on a pull string and would start moving of its own accord.

Her daughter was a bay/toddler at the time they lived in the house and would wake up screaming "don't touch me". She wouldn't fall asleep in her own room and had to be out to sleep elsewhere in the house and then moved into her own room once she was asleep.

They eventually moved out and she had to go back to the house to pick up some post. She asked the bloke who was now living there if he had noticed any activity, especially concentrating on the bedroom that had been her daughters. He started to laugh a bit and she thought he was taking the mic. He asked her had she ever gone in the loft when she lived there and she said no as they hadn't needed to use it.

The man who now lived in the house had been in the loft and said he'd found loads of baby girl things, clothes, pram, cot etc. He'd removed it all from the loft and once he'd done that there were no more strange goings on in the house.

Burnthurst187 · 24/10/2020 10:08

This isn't my experience but I think it's good enough to share, I read about it a few days ago. The lady telling it works in a large hospital

A young, male doctor started work on one of the wards. An old lady came up to him on a ward and asked if he would be able to get her a cup of tea with a saucer, milk and two sugars. He said of course. She mentioned that she was 102 years old

He went back to her room and the bed was made and the room empty. He said to the lady telling the story, where is the old lady who's 102? She replied, she died two weeks ago

Phoenixrising2020 · 25/10/2020 08:44

Burnthurst, that's amazing and very creepy.
