Unfortunately I've got none of my own.
Any supernatural, spooky, poltergeist, ghosts or unexplained tales to tell...? 😱

Ooh I love these threads, I've told this story before but I'll put it here to give the thread a bump:

When my DP was a young he used to be scared to close his eyes at night because as soon as he did he'd feel a presence and if he opened his eyes a "scary man" would be staring him straight in the face. This was a regular occurrence and his parents used to have to take him out in the car to get him to go to sleep. One night he was in his bed trying to sleep and the scary man appeared, but then a lady came into the room and made him go away. The lady wore a long red dress and only had one leg. When he told his parents the following day they went into the loft and brought down some photos. In one of the photos was a lady with only one leg, wearing a red dress. It was his great nan who he'd never met or to his knowledge seen any pictures of.

When we sold our house we rented a house a few miles away. It was 1970s build on a big estate of similar houses. My ex had chosen it without me. When I saw it I took an instant dislike to it. On the day we moved in I was there on my own cleaning it while the removal firm loaded our stuff into their van.

My ex dropped me off and when I went in I didn’t want to shut the door. I noticed a weird sweet smell and the place just felt eerie.

The first night I couldn’t sleep and kept going into DDs room to check her. She was 11 at the time and I never checked on her unless she was unwell but I felt I needed to.

A few days later I was getting dressed in the main bedroom when a crack appeared In the mirrored wardrobe door. In front of our eyes the crack went from one side to the other.

My aunt came round with her grandson and the first thing the boy (he was about 7) said to me was Is this place real or pretend. I know what he meant as it felt sort of on its own and unreal even though it was surrounded by houses.

The smell didn’t go despite airing the house. It wasn’t a damp smell or anything i could identify. A friend called round one day while we were out and she told me later she didn’t want to park on the drive for some reason. The kitchen, the main bedroom and the landing seemed the creepiest places of all. One friend wouldn’t use the upstairs loo as she didn’t want to go up on her own.

One day I came home to find a teddy bear that was on a chair on the landing was on the floor. No one had been home since morning.

I started to feel weirdly depressed and disassociated and found myself spending as much time as I could away from the house. I didn’t feel safe and didn’t feel DD was safe either. In the bedroom I felt watched and by something not nice. I kept having to check on DD in the night.
I didn’t wear my Engagement or wedding rings as I had eczema and kept them in a little fabric pouch in my jewellery box. I don’t know what made me open the pouch one day but I did and the rings had gone. I darednt tell my ex.
The day we were packing up the bedroom contents I found both rings In a bowl of pot pouree on the bedroom windowsill.

After a few months I genuinely felt it wasn’t a safe place and something bad was going to happen. I persuaded my ex to try get the tenancy ended early. The landlord said as long as he could get another tenant and he didn’t end up out of pocket we could break the contract.

We found a flat and the minute we moved our stuff in the depression and weird feeling lifted. I felt as if a weight had been taken off me. We went to clean round once the house was empty. On the window sill of the main bedroom we found 2 small cameos like you see on necklaces. One was a Photo of a oldish man, the other an oldish woman (they looked Edwardian clothes or maybe Victorian). I phoned the removal guys number and asked if he or the other chap had found them and put them on the windowsill. They said they hadn’t and didn’t see any cameos.

Years later I found out that the old man who had lived in the house had died in the main bedroom. He apparently was a miserable sod who hated women. The only people who had felt spooked out were women apart from my aunts little grandson.

It was the weirdest most unsettling experience and the sudden lifting of quite a bad depression when we left was very odd. I have had occasional spells of depressed but apart from this time they very gradually resolved. This was like an instant change.

The next tenant apparently didn’t stay out their whole tenancy either. I’m sure the cracking mirror was just a weakness in the glass of the wardrobe door but the other things like the teddy on the floor, the smell, the cameos and the rings I can’t explain.

I think I've shared this before - one of dozens of stories I could share - visiting Bodiam Castle, Sussex with toddler DS, EXDH wandered off, I was looking up whilst in the left hand tower just off the moat as you enter and my DS kept tugging and tugging at me. Only lasted seconds, I said something like like hang on, look up there, he kept tugging, I looked down. No DS. He was the other side of the courtyard with EXDH. A little lad apparently died and haunts that area I didn't know that until afterwards.

In the tunnels at Dover Castle, DS and I were at the back of the tour group. He was about 4. He kept looking behind asking why the man in the funny clothes was following us. There was no one behind us.

Oradour sur Glane, France, same DS, similar age around 4 max if that, asked why the bad men locked all the children up in there - he pointed at the old school building ruins. We had no tour guide and all the signs were in French which he couldn't read.

I have quite a few! I find these stories fascinating. I wouldn't dismiss people's experiences.

Years ago I went to have a reading with an apparent psychic....I was totally skeptical.
Until she got on to the death of my best friend (pre Facebook or any social media)
The psychic described exactly how my friend had passed. It was bizarre.

Anyway kinda forgot about the reading but the next day, at work i was working on my own and got the strongest smell of smoking but had no idea where it was coming from. Only on my left side.
I worked in 3 different locations that day and all of a sudden the strong smell of smoking would appear.

My friend had loved his cigarettesGrin

I also ended up living in a haunted house. Omg it makes me cry to this day!

newphoneswhodis · 16/08/2020 21:18

I love all these stories. I strangely seem to come to them at night and scare myself silly. I particularly like the time hop stuff. Like when someone is driving home and it usually takes 20minutes but they get home 2hrs later despite no traffic.

YouTube glitches in the matrix....you'll crap yourself....I do!

olbndansmummy · 17/08/2020 07:08

@PortugalPlace we need to hear about your haunted house, you can't tease us like that!
My own story is very mild really. My DM passed away in 1995, I had DS1 in 1997 and we moved into this house in 1998. When DS was a toddler he used to talk to the lady in the hallway but never anywhere else. When he was 3 we had a party for him and had some music on. Bohemian Rhapsody came on and he knew it word for word. My mum was a huge Queen fan and that was the song she always sang most. Definitely wasn't played by us often enough for him to have learnt all the words. DS2 and DD never spoke to the lady.

My father was a diplomat and we lived all over the world. We once lived in this house in Eastern Asia that just had ill luck according to the locals and they were right! Every petty thing that could go wrong did.

My mother finally asked the cook (who would only come there during the day) what to do and she showed her how to propitiate the spirits, but said ultimately the only thing to do was move.

My mother put her foot down for once after my brother tripped on seemingly nothing in his bedroom and sustained an open fracture in his ankle and had to have surgery and we did. We all felt instantly lighter.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 17/08/2020 21:57

Please tell us, Portugal!

Babyvibe · 17/08/2020 22:05

Spooky! I don't have any but I love reading these.

nancybotwinbloom · 17/08/2020 22:05

I love scaring myself. I read about some people's experiences with black eyed kids. Terrified me. Don't read these on your own at night unless you are not easily scared.

I'm going to watch the glitches in the matrix tomorrow

PortugalPlace · 18/08/2020 23:22

So many thing happened...it kinda made me view the world in a different way....I'll probably post a few times as one whole response is too much!

So this goes back to around early 2016.
We are three girls/friends in our late 20s, early 30s and needed a house to rent.
We visited this one beautiful Edwardian terrace house. Had a wonderful feel to the place so we snapped it up there and then.
At first it was a wonderful house/home. Nothing weird or odd.
I've never lived in a haunted house and never given it a second thought.

However.....a few weeks in and odd things started to happen. Nothing too crazy just things that seemed out of place.

I used to get a strange feeling at the top of our stairs, along the landing. Something offish. Every night, always at 9pm I would hear next doors kids playing on their side of the landing. Giggling, laughing and running up and down. Always at 9pm. I did find it odd that it was always at night, at the same time and late for young kids.
Nothing too weird.... however being the unobservant person I am after chatting with our neighbours months later (I mean 12months later!) It dawned on me they did have kids Confused

This was just the start of the "activity" that started to happen on the landing and stairs....

PortugalPlace · 18/08/2020 23:25

One day I was reading on my bed and I heard the bathroom taps turn on and water ,full pelt coming out. Assuming it was my housemate running a bath ...I let it run ..and run until I realised no one was home.

The bathroom was next to the landing. I went in to the bathroom to a flooded floor.

This happened again weeks later but not to the bath taps but the sink taps.

The third time it happened in our seperate toilet and sink.

Everytime the taps were running full pelt. None of the taps were dodgy or needed fixing

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 18/08/2020 23:31

Fucking hell, Portugal! Our haunted house had a weird giggling sort of noise, and there were no windows at all on one side.

PortugalPlace · 19/08/2020 09:54

Even at this point it could still, sort of be explained..... however I always felt like someone wanted to push me down the stairs, it was a horrible, nauseous feeling.

Our toilet was seperate from the bathroom and the toilet rooms door had frosted glass
panels ...the doors looked out to the landing.
I didn't like to go for a pee Grin I would try and go as quickly as possible.
It was the middle of the day and as I was doing a pee I heard feet shuffling outside the door, like someone was shuffling slowly past...no one else was in the house.
I kid you not I saw a figure of a person walking past the door slowly .

It was months later that my housemate and I got on to the subject of how the house felt. I hadn't said anything about my worries but my friend just blurted out....I feel like this house is haunted I've seen ghosts of people in the house

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 19/08/2020 10:59

I'm so glad I never saw anything, just heard stuff.
