HELP! Shower screen exploded over bath!

Yep..! Came home on Sunday night to find the screen in a million chunks in the bath...no idea why or how! Anyway, cleared up and had a bath earlier this evening after a stressful day and the glass chunks appear to have scratched all the enamel!
Is there anyway I can polish this out or get someone I to do it?! Ruined my bath 🙁

Tempered glass can explode due to pressure possibly caused by temperature changes and a flaw in the glass. We have glass on top of our chests of drawers and I was standing next to one getting dressed, I didn't touch it, when it shattered with a loud bang. I was stuck barefoot in the middle of millions of glass fragments.

Not sure what to do with your enamel bath.

Speak to someone who refinishes enamel baths? I'd think it would be covered by house insurance.

Happened in my house too!

It happened to my Mums shower screen a few years back. No one was even in the bathroom. Just heard a loud noise and went in to find it in a billion pieces. It's not that uncommon aparently.

Is it really enamel? Enamel baths are rare these days.

But either way, glass screen exploding isn't that uncommon, and damage may be covered by your household insurance, so call them to check.

If it is enamel it can be repaired. If it's porcelain, maybe not. If it's plastic it might polish out but probably not.

Happened in our shower while my husband was in it. He has been left with terrible scarring. As for the shower and the shower tray, we had to use our insurance to replace them and deep clean the bathroom.

@cutie101 that's awful!!! So sorry to hear that 🙁😱 I can't believe they are still considered safe to have in the home. I don't think I'm going to replace it after reading that.

Thank you for all your comments. Turns out it's a plastic bath so will get a quote from insurers.

@2ManyNameChanges we also contacted the place we got the screen from as we didn't deem the screen safe. Despite it having a 10 year warranty on it, because we'd used it for 5 years they said it can't have been defective. Out of interest where did your screen come from?

No idea was already in the house when we bought it 4years+ ago!
