Doorbell... Creeper out!
Liverbird77 · 07/03/2019 14:18
So my door bell just pinged. I got up straight away to answer it and there was no one there! I am in a row of terraces with a car park at the front. There wasn't time for anyone to have rung and walked off.
Any ideas? Has anyone's bell gone off by itself? It's never happened before and we've been here over a year. I am a bit creeper out!

is it a wireless doorbell? If so it could be on the same frequency as someone else's doorbell and activating when their doorbell is pushed. I've had this before

much as I love a bit of woo, I'd be more concerned about having a good look round, sometimes they are testing who is in when.
also wondered is the doorbell wireless?
Liverbird77 · 07/03/2019 14:28
Not wireless, but that was a good idea. I had a good look round and there was no one there. Not even anyone walking down the street. I am alone with my baby so it's a bit worrying!

Our does it if the battery is low, or a neighbour is on the same frequency, or it's windy, or the shop over the road pulls it's shutter up/down.
We get very few actual visitors so I tend to ignore it a lot.

This happened to me about a year or so ago with our electric doorbell. It happened on the afternoon and then again at gone 3 a.m. Assuming a caller at 3 a.m. could only represent bad news I panicked and woke up my DH and we rushed to the door together. No-one was there. It then happened again, in the daytime then at stupid o'clock again. When we investigated further by taking off the bell push we found there was some corrosion where rain must have got in. We changed the bell push and it hasn't happened since.
The timing of it must have been random.

I've heard of it happening when a spider had got inside the bell.
