Orbs in photos, what's the woo theory

So yep, I know, dust, moisture, dirt on the lense all cause 'orbs'in photos. But I've heard people say it's supernatural, what's it supposed to be, ghosts caught on camera?

Tiny bit tipsy, sorting through old photos, hundreds of them. Only orbs are in one bedroom at the Palace of Versailles. did they just not clean that room, or disturb the dust just before I came in, or are the former inhabitants hanging around. ShockHmmConfusedBlush

It’s dust or moisture. Anyone who thinks it’s woo is a bit stupid.

StressedToTheMaxx · 27/10/2018 22:50

I never used to believe in this spirit theory but I am confused since having dc.
Whenever I take a photo of my dc in a certain room in my dp's house it happens. I can take endless photos of the dog, my df, my dm but it only happens with the dc.
It is most probably total coincidence but i find it very odd Confused

Thanks for clearing that up for me Yuh. Grin

Ooh stressed that's just given me goosebumps!

I'm not sure what it's supposed to be op, some sort of ghostly presence

DustyMaiden · 27/10/2018 23:00

I had an orb floating around my bedroom one night. My DB told me it is a spirit visiting, not a ghost as such. Just popped back for a visit.

gamerwidow · 27/10/2018 23:03

The woo explanation is spirits. It’s bobbins but if it gives people comfort i can’t get bothered about it.

StressedToTheMaxx · 28/10/2018 00:01

I know microwavetable it's very strange.
Most probably a coincidence but it doesn't hurt to think someone is watching over them.

DaveTheDesigner · 29/10/2018 23:26

They are simply dust particles close to a camera using a flash that’s close to the lens. Doesn’t happen with SLRs. Absolutely not woo.

Bunnyhop1502 · 02/11/2018 20:35

In the photo you posted I can see a moat with a face in it m. Top left corner. It’s probably nothing but...

Bunnyhop1502 · 02/11/2018 20:36

*a mist with a face in it

FieryGhoulie · 04/11/2018 00:53

Don't believe in orbs at all. Sorry.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/11/2018 09:10

Does it happen when you video stuff on your phone too? The dust particles I mean?

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2018 09:11

Orbs are so last century.

DustyMaiden · 06/11/2018 20:12

I filmed the orb floating around my room. I filmed it on my iPhone.

I worked in a photographers when real cameras were still mostly used.
When most people still used film, you hardly ever saw orbs (or dust!) but when digital cameras came in, and as they were generally smaller that proper cameras and the flash closer to the lens you'd see it all the time. Also in a camera with film if there was dust in the camera or on the lens it would show as a black mark on the photo, whereas dust in a digital camera would look white like orbs.
