Mysterious puddles of water!

Okay. I really want a reason why this would happen! DM is waking up to a puddle of water on the middle shelf of her glass TV stand every day. The top shelf is dry. The undersides are dry. The bottom shelf is dry.
She monitored it for a couple of days and it stopped for a couple of weeks. Now it's happening again every day. No damp or anything. Just a small little puddle on this middle shelf. And no, the cat doesn't sleep there!

Please help me make sense of this! I really want a rationale explanation!

It'll be the cat! Mine does it on the sofa but it doesn't smell of anything.

Nousernameforme · 01/02/2018 18:55

Condensation from the top shelf on the cold nights that has time to dry in the morning only leaving the little puddle below? Are there any water marks on the underside of the top glass

ivykaty44 · 01/02/2018 18:56

Condensation

We have similar at work

WallaceSimpson · 01/02/2018 18:56

Set up a camera one night.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 01/02/2018 19:01

Could she be sleep walking and putting the water there herself? I believe (though happy to be corrected) sleep walking doesn't have to be something you have always done, it can be triggered by stress etc. If it stopped when she was monitoring it then that would be my guess.

Hotdoggity · 01/02/2018 19:06

Nousername Possible, but the shelves are the same size. Wouldn't the underside of the top shelf be wet?

Why always the same spot and no anywhere else on the stand?

Maybe interstellar but it's so neat. I like the camera idea.

I had a strange experience with water. Lying in my bed one night probably about six months ago and a large drop of water landed on the side of my head.
Thought I'd a leak in the pipes in the loft so jumped up switched the light on expecting to see a damp patch on the ceiling, but nothing. Ran my hand over the ceiling and it was bone dry.
Only thing I could think of was that there had been a small moth fluttering about in my room and it had relieved itself just as it flew over me.
Kinda strange because it was quite a large dollop of water.

Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 17:42

I think I'm more freaked out that you could go to sleep with a massive
moth in your room. I hate the erratic little buggars. Last night she stayed up really late to watch and it didn't happen - than happened sometime between 12-2 in the afternoon. Seriously I can't explain it at all.

Sorry you said small. How much wee does a moth do?

Has she got a salt lamp?

user1471542018 · 02/02/2018 17:52

Could water be dripping down the inside of the TV aerial cable? I had that and it took about 2 years to figure why we got wet patches on the TV unit as it was intermittent - only heavy showers and wind in certain direction. I blamed the cats / DH / vases of flowers and eventually got lucky and was there at the right time to see what it was!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 02/02/2018 18:04

Are you sure it's water? Could be one of those rare see-through terminators.

Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 21:09

Pelvic That's it. Phew. I was so hoping there'd be a rational explanation!

OP posts:
Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 21:10

user I'll do a thorough investigation but from DM's photo it doesn't appear to be touching anything.

OP posts:
Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 21:11

oren Not sure, why?!

OP posts:
Lucky11111 · 02/02/2018 21:51

Look up 'drip loop'.

You need one on cables that come into the house. Stops rain / condensation etc.

Then look outside and see if you have one.

Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 22:16

There's a sky box on that shelf. I'm leaning towards a leak from it. Not sure how but gotta be more likely than a demon.

OP posts:
Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 22:17

Weirdly just reading about that loopy. Thank you!

OP posts:
Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 22:50

Right. I've looked at the picture she sent. Reckon there's an aerial in the back of the Sky TV box with a left leaning trajectory and I bet that it's not entirely sealed where it runs through the outside wall, which means rainwater will run along the underside of the cable until it meets with a horizontal angle where it pools before it gets to the box. BOOM. Solved! I really really hope that's true.

elQuintoConyo · 02/02/2018 23:14

Have you seen the Japanese film Dark Water?

Grin
CarcerDun · 02/02/2018 23:27

We had a leaking tv aerial, it came through the freeview box and resulted in a random water puddle. I reckon that is definitely it. Unplug it all and get an aerial fixer in.

Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 23:39

No elquinto! I mean, yes I have and just, no.

OP posts:
Hotdoggity · 02/02/2018 23:39

Thanks Carcer I bloody hope so. Every day? Still feisible?
