Has anyone else experienced this? You could be doing a simple task and everything around you just starts becoming very loud and sounds seem as if they’re shouting at you, I don’t hear any voices or anything like that but it seems to be my brain is taking everything in as being angry it’s quite scary, it has happened to me quite a few times in the past couple of years but recently it’s been happening a lot, I’m scared to tell anyone apart from my grandmother who thought it was some form of panic attack? Please don’t tell me I’m the only one😩 these “episodes” or “panic attacks” only last about 10/20 mins, it’s starting to scare me because it happened when I was driving this morning and it was very distracting.Confused

I had something similar when I was becoming mentally unwell, medication has helped. I’m not saying this is the case with you it probably is just anxiety, possibly high blood pressure? Worth talking to your Gp though.

I’ve heard this described as a sensory gating issue

OP, don't be scared, you most certainly won't be the only one.
Please go and have a word with your GP, it is very likely to be anxiety related. 🌸

Could be anxiety but equally, I have had something similar when I've had a sinus infection, particularly as a child.

I get this quite a bit. I've never heard of anyone else having it so nice to know I'm not alone! I can't quite explain it either. I've never looked it up because I wouldn't even know what to type in!

Not quite but sort of. If I am very tired I find it very hard to filter noise (it doesn't help that my hearing rage is quite far). Everything ends up sounding very very loud like all the sounds are competing for head space. If there is only one/few sounds they will be horribly horribly loud (to the point where I feel like crying) but if there are many soinds then it just becomes a jumble and I find it difficult to distinguish sounds (for example I find it hard to hear people I am talking to because of all the other noise). I don't feel like I am in danger or anything but it is uncomfortable. St first I don't really notice, then it gets slightly annoying, then it becomes oppressive, then agitating and the very upsetting and overwhelming. It will usually continue until I either pass out (which is common because it only happens when I am tired) or I run away and hide somewhere quiet (very difficult to find somewhere sufficiently quiet these days).
