Strange shadowy figure next to me in bed

Last night, I was turning over in bed before going to sleep, when I saw what I thought was the silhouette of a shadowy figure looming over me in bed. It looked a bit like it had horns from its outline. Needless to say I was terrified and - childishly - I dived under the covers and stayed there quivering until I felt it had gone away.

To be honest, I think I can say it was prob my mind playing tricks on me but it was pretty scary nonetheless. It didn't beat the time when I did actually see a definite and discernible lady lying in the bed next to me at my DH's old flat (and no, it wasn't another lover!) 😂

Anyone else ever had anything like this happen?

I know it was very much a trick of the mind, so I am in no doubt that it wasn't very woo.

The time I saw the lady in my DH's bed - now that was very freaky. She was actually lying there UNDERNEATH the duvet, asleep, wearing what I can only describe as some kind of flapper or 1920s attire with an odd headband. She just lay there asleep and I actually sat up in bed expecting her to disappear. When she didn't - after what seemed an eternity but could have only been a minute - I was very freaked out. I contemplated reaching out to touch her but then decided against it and hid under the covers (I must really love doing that!) lol

It was by far the most convicting moment I've had when I genuinely believed in ghosts, and I'm def not woo in the slightest.

If you think any of this was anything.
but a dream then yes, you are woo!

Night terrors. Fascinating things - it's basically when the mechanism that regulates waking and sleeping sensory perception/paralysis isn't working.
So for example you can be utterly convinced you're awake, and actually be receiving sensory input from the room around you but your dream is overlaid onto that.

All cultures have mythologies around it - there's a great wiki article on it.

It's not just visual either - I've had the feeling of a thing sitting on the bed next to me. I know the mechanism but it's still unpleasant while it's happening.

If it happens to you regularly make sure your room isn't too hot and get someone to wake you before the time they usually occur.
