just wondering how much people were charged for full set of shoes? I was quoted £70 yesterday plus VAT plus £10 call out fee.

We pay £60 for a new set or £55 for a re-fit.
This includes VATand no call out fee. We've used a few farriers over the years and non of them have had a call out fee.

At the moment he comes out every 5 weeks and re-shoes 2 horses and trims the 2 ponies.

Barefoot - 25 euros last week but I wasn't too impressed with his work so am going to try someone else for 40 euros. No call-out fee.

Ours only charges a call-out fee if he is coming to do just one horse, and it's only £5 so not too bad. I think my sister pays him about £70 incl VAT for a set of shoes but dhorse and the shetland are both barefoot so £22 each for a trim (incl VAT).
I think there are cheaper farriers around here as some people seemed shocked when he put up a list of his fees, but we are confident he does a good job and he is reliable, plus he has an evil sense of humour!

Depends where you live though doesn't it? I believe it's cheaper oop north, and also people we know in Somerset seem to pay a lot less than us for farriers/hay etc.

muppetisacat · 10/09/2009 13:54

I pay £60 a set and get them all done together to save the £10 call out fee [miser]
