Goodness me! Does the owner know?

cluttercup · 13/04/2009 18:39

Bet she's boasting to all her equine friends "I just didn't know I was pregnant until I got these wierd stomach cramps - df was born 30 minutes later..."

Northernlurker · 13/04/2009 18:40

That sounds exciting! If it's any comfort I had somebody saying to me 'oh are you pregannt' when I was 41 weeks and 1 hour away from going into labour as it turned out! Guess it can be somewhat the same for horses...

vonsudenfed · 13/04/2009 18:41

She isn't called Zoe Williams by any chance?

What a lovely surprise. We want pics of the foal!

I once went into the barn early to fetch my mum's horse for the farrier and got a shock as the mare in the next box had had a foal. I had to get the yard manager to phone her owner who thought we were joking as she hadn't had a clue the mare was pregnant either.

Thing is, the day before she'd hacked across the Downs to a show, competed in the jumping and hacked home again!

Ah it was lovely though, he hadn't even stood up and I was the first to see him, I'll never forget it.

Someone i used to work for got a horse cheap and was constantly battling to get it to lose weight, hacking it for hours, not feeding it any hard food etc, eventually had the vet out to get it vaccinnated and explained to the vet the problems she was having. the vet examined it and said "she is in foal, best start feeding her!" so she had to stop riding and give loads of feed - she said she felt really guilty! So it is obviously quite common!! Congratulations on little foaly by the way

My sister bought a horse back in September and only realised a month ago that she was pregnant And she knows a LOT about horses and trains them professionally. She only realised when the horse's teats started to grow. We're eagerly expecting the new arrival any day now!

FannyWaglour · 14/04/2009 08:43

Out of curiosity then (and congratulations on your foul), who "owns" the foul? You or the owner of the horse?

FannyWaglour · 14/04/2009 08:44

foal. not foul. sorry.

Callipygia · 14/04/2009 09:00

Northernlurker: did you not realise you were pregnant?

MitchyInge · 14/04/2009 09:30

ahhhh exciting

feels intense wave of equine broodiness

Northernlurker · 14/04/2009 11:31

Yes sorry - i knew I was pregnant - like the mare here - but the other person had failed to notice - like the OP! Sorry to disappoint but i was always far too sick to be one of those 'didn't notice I was pregnant till gave birth in sainsburys' people

tengreenbottles · 14/04/2009 13:42

the owner owns the foal and the horse ,i just have them on loan . The owner was totally gobsmacked ,we worked out she was only six weeks pregnant when she arrived here and now we know who the father is too , a randy cob stallion

ABetaDad · 14/04/2009 13:50

Ermmm... who is the father and does he know yet?

< Caution: perrenial worried bloke question >

MitchyInge · 14/04/2009 16:12

while we wait for pics of your foal here is one called Luxton nuzzling his mum - born recently at the Original Miniature Pony Centre near Moretonhampstead, in Devon

Nekabu · 14/04/2009 16:38

So a stallion got in with her mare and she didn't think to check to see if he'd got her in foal? Then happily put her out on loan without the courtesy of even mentioning she might have been covered? What a muppet ...

nickschick · 14/04/2009 16:45

When I was about 40 weeks pregnant I was in superdrugs and saw a pregnancy test for £2.99 I was looking at it to see how it could be so cheap (tests were nuch dearer at that point)and this dear old lady tapped me on the shoulder and said 'dont waste your money - id say you are for sure'.

Nekabu · 14/04/2009 17:02

Lol!!!
