Hat hair - how do you deal with it? Skanky helmet - how do you clean them?

How do you cope with the dreaded hat hair? I hate it! Do you wash your hair every time you ride?

And on a related topic, how do you keep your helmet even vaguely hygenic? Mine gets so soggy every time I ride that sometimes it's still a bit damp and yuckky when I put it back on again. Vile.

Any tips gratefully received.

Snigger @ skanky helmet

I got some hat deodoriser, haven't actually used it nor am I 100% sure where it is - but it exists!

It is quite grim when you can squeeze big drops of sweat out of the lining isn't it?

I have some hat liners - look just like black panty liners (and probably are) but they are v. good at soaking up sweat from your forehead - and yes to washing hair after every time you ride unless happy to look like bush.

Re Hat hair, dare I say have you thought of the dreaded hairnet?

Re cleaning, I use to steam mine over a kettle, then pull the liner out to dry.

I used to save up those strips of paper impregnated with scent they put in magazines as testers, the put them in my hat. Brilliant -and cheap!

Thanks everyone.

Hair is too short for hair net and it's more the squashed down, damp look that is my problem rather than long silky locks getting tangled. I'm also paranoid I'd kick up some kind of weird allergic reaction to hat deodourisers and would end up with a leprous head... Yuck.

It's so unfair, why do I always look like this when I get off my horse? Why can't I appear as a glowing picture of elegance rather than pouring sweat like a navvie on a hot day? Maybe I can do something with hat liners.... Do you think reusing fleece nappy liners would be just too gross?

Barking - I will try the kettle trick and see if that helps.

Most riders-out in Newmarket, including the men, tie a small headscarf (like a big hanky) over their hair to that their helmets are not made "skanky".

shaving foam ois soap based and wil clean the inside of your helmet a treat! just scrub it on and wipe it off a bit after. smells good too. Just dont use too much or you may get frothy head if you sweat!!!

I have used wet wipes to clean inside my hats, there are deodorised sprays available. I have just bought a ventilated hat... much better!
