Telling YO my horse being sent over Rainbow Bridge

Help please
My old girl is on retirement livery living out in a herd, I’ve not ridden her for a couple of years. I pop up and see her once a week, but I know that’s she’s well looked after by the YO.
My circumstances have recently changed, and I can’t really afford to keep her any longer, so I’ve made a very difficult decision and scheduled the vet to send her over Rainbow Bridge
Just how do I tell the YO? Earlier this year, a similar situation, the owner wanted pts and the YO was asking everyone if they’d like to rehome this horse. The owner eventually moved the horse away…
i don’t want her doing that with my girl. She’s my responsibility, I made a vow to my mare she’d never leave me, I can’t shirk that responsibility, and I’d hate myself forever wondering where/how she was.
ideally I’d just do it, but I know also that’s pretty shit too…
What should I say to her please? Thank You

I would just lie & say the vet has examined her & found something catastrophic wrong with her & that there is no other option. Then just say you don't want to discuss it further.

The vet will have come across exactly this situation many times before & if you give them the heads up then they will be discreet with what they say in front of YO. (They won't be able to outright lie though).

I would do the same for mine & I think you've made a very hard but brave & sensible decision.

A peaceful end which is a bit too early rather than a day too late is the most important thing you will ever do for your horse.

YO here. There is no need to lie. Just say that you can no longer afford to keep her and that you'd rather she goes before the weather turns too cold.

Thank You,
My baby girl passed over yesterday morning.
i did message the YO yesterday morning also, and it appears I misjudged her. She was there when I arrived for the vet - and she stayed with us, and tbh … was absolutely bloody wonderful. I’m so glad she was there to help.
Run free my April Fool - you’ll always be in my heart ❤️

I'm glad that things went as well as possible with your dear old horse at the end of her life, and that the YO was supportive.Flowers

Thinking of you, I’ll have to do this for my girl in the coming years and it’s so hard, RIP beautiful April Fool ❤️

Sorry for your loss, but good on you for doing the right thing. You were very brave and it sounds like your yo was brilliant xx
