Best horse toy for 7/8 year old - Crafty Ponies or something else?

DD wants some kind of horses that come with saddles and head collars and rugs she can dress up and play with. Are Crafty Ponies the best thing? Or something else? Thanks

Depends on your budget!
The Crafty Ponies ones are nice, and there are lots of budget friendly accessories that could be gifted by family members.
The Le Mieux ones are fancier and really nice quality, but 2-3 times the price of the CP ones!!

I’d go for the Le Mieux ones as they have mini rugs and tack. They are so cute. I’m 55 and actually have one of their dog toys. The basset hound, you can get leads and collars for them.

DaysofHoney · 24/09/2025 10:19

Go for Le Mieux. Honestly I thought my daughter would play with with hers for a few weeks and lose interest but they still going strong two years on. She embellishes and adds to all the accessories- she makes loom band head collars, and hay nets, and feed troughs… she adores them! The quality is very good.

Its a real shame that they aren't the same size, otherwise you'd be able to mix and match the accessories

tinyspiny · 24/09/2025 11:49

The crafty ponies ones are IMO much nicer , they are also the original and for that reason alone I’d choose those over le mieux but then I’m not a child / teen so have never quite got the le mieux obsession .

My daughter has a le mieux horse and she absolutely loves it, it is pricey but I think she may keep it forever

JaffavsCookie · 24/09/2025 20:19

I’m surprised the LeMieux ones are good quality as everything else they make, whilst looking superficially elegant is pretty shit, saddlecloths that rub, headcollars that last a year etc.
Anyway the craft ponies were the original but sadly they weren’t savvy enough to patent them and so Le Mieux just blatantly nicked the entire idea.

GoGoFloFlo · 25/09/2025 20:28

Thanks. I’m going for the Crafties

I love my crafty pony. And yes, I am a grown ass woman with no children 😂

Good choice! The Crafty Ponies have stood the test of time in our house - we got them when they first came out and DD1 who is 12 still has a sneaky play with hers and they have as many if not more accessories than LeMieux and are beautifully made. They have been influenced by my annoyance that LeMieux stole the idea off a small family owned company.

DD2 was given the LeMieux hobby horse but asked me to sell it on Vinted and bought the Crafty Pony one as pole comes apart and the bridle works better apparently!

lapuf · 26/09/2025 21:13

Crafty ponies here too. The le mieux ones are posher looking but I don’t like their copying tactics!

Titianshe · 28/09/2025 22:49

Crafty pony vote here. My dd much prefers them over Lemieux. Tack, rugs etc along with educational accessories like farrier and worming kits. Lemieux did steal the idea and the pony eyes are creepy

fourelementary · 28/09/2025 22:52

I found the crafty pony kind of a bit cartoon and dumb looking tbh. The Lemieux has been a firm favourite with my DGD all year… and she got some accessories for birthday and wants more for Xmas…

GoGoFloFlo · 30/09/2025 22:26

Agree the Crafty Ponies look a bit cartoon but it’s for a 7 year old not me!

DD has one Le Mieux but lots of Crafty Ponies and far prefers the Crafty’s. They have some lovely accessories which are very realistic and beautifully made. I also agree with the other posters that Le Mieux’s morals have let them down. The Crafty Pony people are lovely, I’ve met some of them when they’ve been at HOYS and other shows.
DD met Joe Stockdale at their stand at HOYS as they did a rug set with his name on, she still remembers that day.

AramintaWildbloode · 02/10/2025 20:26

Bloody le mieux ripped off crafty ponies so I wouldn’t give them any business.
In general their stuff is overpriced too.

MissRainbowBrite · 02/10/2025 20:29

And also, IKEA Kallax are just the right size to make stables for Crafty Ponies. All of DD’s have a stall with a mini feed bucket and a hay net rigged up with a sticky hook. It gets an expensive business 🤣

GoGoFloFlo · 02/10/2025 22:33

That’s awesome @MissRainbowBrite i feel like we need a photo of the stables!

how old is your DD?
