We’re thinking of escaping Greater London and moving to Somerset/Wiltshire areas. Not looking for our own bit of land but will join another livery yard.
i am a happy hacker and would love to know where’s the best places for off road hacking.
DD has recently joined the Royal Navy and most likely to be based at Yeovilton hence the wish to move west.
Anyone at a yard where they have direct access to lots of bridleways? At the moment I have access to Ruislip woods

I'm not in the area anymore, but there is so much outriding on Salisbury Plain. I've done endurance rides there in the past and the PROW network is extensive.

I moved from the South East to the South West and I have to say my hacking experience has got worse rather than better! The hacking where we are (not far from Yeovilton) is pretty awful - it was far better where I used to be, a couple of miles from the M25. Somerset is very dominated by farming, and that doesn't always allow for good riding. There's obviously lots of areas with lovely riding (Quantocks, Exmoor, Mendips etc), but just look very carefully for bridlepaths and outriding before you choose an area.

Thank you for the heads up, I’m actually inside the M25, although the hacking is still good in Ruislip woods some bridleways have been lost to HS2 😡.
Maybe west Wiltshire would be better
