Chestnut mare named…

  • Olympia
  • Allegra
  • Aurora
  • Winslet

She’ll be joining my 4yo bay mare named Calypso

A hundred thousand percent Allegra. A perfect name for a horse whose friend is called Calypso.

But why you have defrauded us out of the chestnut mare photo tax?!

ThisFluentBiscuit · 18/03/2025 03:30

I don't like any of them, because they all sound like schoolgirls with pigtails. Not suitable for a horse, imho. Olympia doesn't fit into that category, but it just reminds me of the conference centre in Earl's Court or a mountain top in mythology. Doesn't seem suitable for a horse.

I like Calypso because it sounds prancey, like horses are.

What about Juno? Classical like Calypso but doesn't sound like a schoolgirl with bows in her hair. I think Apollo is also an excellent name for a horse. Yes, I know that's a male god, but she could be a trans horse! 🤭😂

Or, Athena? Sounds more classical than schoolgirl to me, although I know some girls are named Athena.

I pity the poor pigtailed schoolgirl named Winslet. That one was a bit jarring, to be fair. Winnie, maybe. Hah! Whinny. Oh, very good OP 😀

How can you say Allegra doesn't sound horsey? It literally means joyful and lively.

I like Cosima but it feels like the name of a smaller creature. Constanza is nice too.

I like Allegra, but i agree with PP that we need a photo!

Allegra sounds way too girlie and prissy for such a magnificent, hip, cool animal as a horse. I think a horse's name should have a touch of magnificence or cool or about it or be slightly regal. What about Carmen? Or something horsily historical like Cherokee or Sioux?

For something regal, Contessa. Feminine like Allegra but not used as a human name.

Or the Native American word for "butterfly", which is "Aponi". 😂

TheHerboriste · 18/03/2025 06:45

Doesn’t she come already named?

thislifer · 18/03/2025 07:26

What’s her name currently? I always thought people didn’t change horses names? We had a horse called Banana (not our choice!) growing up. Somehow their name grows on you, didn’t really ever think about changing it.

TaggySits · 18/03/2025 07:27

Horsey McHorseface? 😁

SpottyBumPony · 18/03/2025 07:37

I like your choice, they make me think of 70's or 80's horse names. From your list I like Allegra.

My suggestion is Perdita, bonus points for it being a Jilly Cooper name.

SquashedSquid · 18/03/2025 07:49

Allegra is lovely and I love Legs for short.

gingercat02 · 18/03/2025 08:07

I was always told it was bad luck to change a horses name. Hence I was stuck with Tarquin and Toffee as my first 2 ponies.

Sunflowers1999 · 18/03/2025 09:12

We’ve got her from a dealer (I know, I know, not ideal but we fell in love) and don’t know what her name was at her previous home! She doesn’t seem to recognise her passported name so we’re starting afresh and the kids are thrilled so I think we’ve narrowed it down to:

  • Allegra
  • Olympia

Allegra definitely out of those two.

ScottBakula · 18/03/2025 22:44

I knew a Olympia ( flea bitten grey ) her full name was very optimistically ,
Olympia gold standard the 3rd
The only thing she gold standard at was been a swine to catch .
