Yard owner doesn't like grazing muzzles (lite bite)
He is recovered from lami but she can't understand that it's an ongoing issue that needs to be managed.
Says it's making him aggressive. No, one of the other geldings went for him, ears back, teeth bared.Nasty situation.
Desperately looking for new grazing now.
have have horses for 60 years Pony club B,C, D & BHSAI.
But thinks she knows it all, someone who's lost 4 horses in the years I've been there, due to lack of veterinary care.
Sorry, so angry right now

Can he be grazed alone in a starvation paddock?

Cinnamongirlinthesand · 31/10/2024 21:35

He's in starvation paddock during the day with soaked hay but YO wants him out with others at night. Tried to negotiate him staying in paddock always, happy to be alone, as long as he can see others but she's not budging. Her way or the highway. Desperately looking for other grazing.Vet says he can go out at night with grazing muzzle but YO not having it. What's best, muzzle or pedal bone rotation, pain and pts?

I’d look for somewhere that does a track system .

Redplenty · 01/11/2024 22:13

She's a rubbish YO. If she won't let him wear his muzzle or stay in the starvation paddock he'll have to be stabled. Anything else is likely to cause serious harm.

Balloonhearts · 03/11/2024 17:36

Move him is all you can do really. She sounds rubbish and ignorant. He's your horse, you say what he wears.

Desperately looking for new grazing. Have never been on yard before, had own land before relationship breakdown.
It's like the bitches of east wick, shocked that grown woman think they have more knowledge than vet by looking on google.
Should be putting horses welfare first.
Dreading going to yard now and it should be an absolute pleasure.

Hiya can I suggest swapping his hay for straw and not using a starvation paddock as stressed grass is lethal.

I'd never use a grazing muzzle myself or it would be a very last resort. Horses have a tendency to eat more during the day than at night so reducing his calories by using straw maybe enough to prevent any further attacks. Best of luck.

Can you find another yard as a short term measure whilst trying to find new grazing? Rather than trying to argue the rights and wrongs of the situation with someone who is obviously thick as pig I'd find another yard asap just to get away and then look for something better long term. Accept that finding alternative livery in a hurry isn't always easy especially as so many of the good ones are word of mouth only. Local FB group worth a try.

RedPony1 · 06/11/2024 14:06

In at night until you can find a new yard?
