Expert bits

Does anyone know of these bits are any good? I generally think when it comes to horses that buying cheaper is often a false economy and knock off bots can cause problems however I do see people recommend these bits and the likes of myler and Fager that they are copying out a lot in to marketing. Has anyone used them that can compare to the real thing?

liveforsummer · 03/07/2024 17:53

Expert bits - as in the title!

Not on i've heard of!! but i have a few real Neue Schule's and i can't find fakes that "feel" quite the same

Just Googled Expert Bits, not used them before, at that price it might be worst a try?

We had them come to our yard for a consultation and then we bought a bit off them. What they said made sense, and we are happy with what we decided on, it's working well for the pony and daughter. I thought they would cost more than they did really. I'll be honest we don't really have a 'real thing' to compare with as we have always previously just put the whizzy pony in a wilkie and everything else in snaffle, but newer pony is a bit more sensitive and we're asking for a more established and consistent contact so we 'upgraded' to an Expert bits type thing, whereas it sounds like you might be downgrading, which is a different decision I guess!

liveforsummer · 08/07/2024 16:31

@Deliaskis not downgrading as is h. Currently have pony in a loose ring myler and it's not quite right - not sure if mouthpiece or rings are what needs tweaked and expert bits seem a far cheaper way of experimenting if the mouthpiece is a similar standard. I know there is the bit bank but you still need to pay full price then send it back before you can try the next one. I like to have a small selection at home as it can be useful to change bits about from time to time or for different disciplines.

Having looked in to it, expert bits seem to have excellent reviews, however some of the ones I was looking at on eBay shops were 'UK Expert' which appears to be a knock off of the knock offs so will avoid 😅. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think they do copies of some styles of NS bits. It's the myler mouthpieces I'm looking at for now

Are you stabled at home or on a yard with others? I think once you have a few people interested they will come out and you get an hour I think and they examine your horse and tell you about what's going on in its mouth, and also talk about what you are looking for (e.g. more control, more nuanced feedback etc.) and they will go through some options and rationale.

It really worked for us, confirmed the things that had been bothering us, and the proposed solution has worked well. We now need a different bit for jumping/XC as he has gained confidence and is now very very keen, but I feel like we are now armed with an understanding of his mouth and what will/won't work for him so I'm better placed to do that myself.

Have not heard of them but would definitely recommend getting a bit fitter out that stocks a range of brands that you can try.
I ended up with something I previously wouldn't have considered from bomber bits but has proved to be perfect.
Now I know what works is be more likely to try a 'replica' but it was worth the initial cost to find something that suited him.

I use a Bomber pelham in the show ring with one of mine and it's changed how he carries himself immensely!
I took part in a demo at an Equestrian centre or i don't think i'd have thought about trying them

@RedPony1 @Serencwtch out of interest which bomber mouthpieces are you using as that was another I was looking for a copy of then would invest in the real thing if it seemed to suit - been considering sported barrel and happy tongue atm

Happy tongue, i have a prolific tongue gymnast and he loves it!

Wendycoping · 27/07/2024 11:55

They are blatant copycats and I don't use them for that reason. I'm amazed they haven't been sued.
