No passport for four months - what can I do?

Pony Society have lost my passport and even though I’ve paid for a duplicate, they are refusing to issue a replacement until the Post Office investigates their claim of loss. That can take three months! There after the replacement passport can take 6-8 weeks.

Any advice as to what grounds I’ve got? I will call BHS legal tomorrow morning but for now, I have the internet and you strangers in my phone. Thanks

To clarify:
You've posted your passport to the Pony Society, they've lost it.
Or they claim they've sent it to you but it's lost in transit?

Firstly, the Post office has no role here at all. It's the mail carrier the Pony Soc used/ posted it with so I am guessing Royal Mail which is a separate company entirely.

Pony society should have sent your passport tracked special delivery? Did they give you a tracking number? Where does that say it is ?

You need to call the passport office and log your passport as MIA and request a new one. It's about 3 weeks at the moment if you are quick. Pony society are liable to you for the cost of the replacement and they claim from RMG.

Ask the Pony Society for the tracking number of the package your passport was in when it was being mailed to you.

Then, look it up on the couriers or Royal Mail website.

See if it's a genuine tracking number.

Where was it last scanned?

The Pony Society lost it, so technically they should be doing the paperwork their side with whichever company lost the package.

They sent it regular post not tracked so no chance of tracking it.

Also, they have started that department of agriculture will not allow them to produce a duplicate for two months to allow time for passport to ‘turn up’!
