Cardiff £80 a week assisted livery. Includes hard feed, hay/haylage and straw. Shavings extra. Staff turn out and bring in.

Deliaskis · 26/04/2023 17:00

Current yard £28 a week DIY livery, stable and field. Can also buy bedding and hay/haylage from yard. All livery services are pay as you go with a team of freelance livery providers. Full livery is £15 a day, turn-out/bring £3 each, etc. So we have a mix really, which I guess is assisted.

XelaM · 26/04/2023 20:27

North London - £110 per week 5-day part livery (need to muck out on weekends). Includes stable and everything else

maxelly · 26/04/2023 22:45

Pricey south-east home counties here

Grass livery/Grazing only (rarer than hen's teeth): c.£150 pcm (with extra for winter hay etc on top)

DIY with stable and facilities (school etc) but you buy your own hay/bedding: c.£200 pcm

DIY with bedding and hay included: £250 -£300 pcm depending on niceness of yard, quality of grazing, straw vs shavings, how much bedding you're allowed to use etc.

5 day livery on average yard (owner mucks out/turns out at weekends), hay, bedding and feed inc: £450-550 pcm depending on niceness of yard

7 day livery on average yard (all jobs done but no exercising/schooling): £600-£700 pcm

Competition/schooling/'full' livery (7 day livery plus schooling/exercising, tack cleaning, bells and whistles/swanky yard): £1000pcm++ /the soul of your eldest child Wink )

I’m in west Yorks, virtually nowhere near me does full DIY. It’s all to some extent assisted as (understandably) all the yard owners were getting fed up of people coming up at 11 am on a Saturday and leaving their horses to go nuts before then with no food and all their friends being turned out.
Assisted DIY/Part starts at about £40pw and full starts at about £100pw

Theres also a track livery place which I love in theory but everyone I’ve spoken to there is the sort of person that thinks if you’re not barefoot and bitless and do ANYTHING but hack you’re abusing your horse. So annoyingly… not for me.

Flowerfairy101 · 30/05/2023 11:32

South Wales, was paying 150 a month for 'full' grass livery so all year turnout and daily checks although that bit was dubious as I found my horse's water still frozen solid at lunchtime one day over winter Hmm
Impossible to find any sort of DIY grass livery as a rule but through friends of friends I am now renting a huge field and block of stables for £60pcm

Pleasedontdothat · 30/05/2023 11:46

It’s the extras which hurt financially 😬 so make sure you’re comparing like with like - one of my friends had her horse on retirement grass livery and while the ‘headline’ rate was very reasonable she got charged for every little extra thing so most months the rate was about double. We found that switching from assisted DIY to full didn’t make that much difference when we added up everything we were spending on bedding, hay, feed etc and the amount of time it freed up was worth it

Remember to include the cost of running your car when you decide whether to have DIY/Assisted/Part/Full.

It amazes me the number of people who drive a 4x4 several miles each way to save the charge £2 for a turnout/bring in.

NobbyButtons · 30/05/2023 15:56

West Midlands (the area not the county) - one yard is £550 pcm for full livery (going up to £595 for new clients I think), another is £650 for full livery and £520 for five-day livery, or £320 for assisted DIY. Not sure what the DIY ones are charging as they all seem to be full. It also varies depending on what's included, e.g. some yards will provide any hard feed requested, whereas others will charge for special diets which considerably adds to the cost.

SabbatWheel · 30/05/2023 16:01

South Wales £28 per week DIY, with assisted livery available. Daily turnout fields with water in each field all year round. Reasonable facilities on site. Need to buy in your own hay, bedding and feed.
