Ending a part loan - worried about our friendship

Hi everyone,

My best friend offered the opportunity to part loan her horse (2 days a week) three years ago. I have enjoyed the last three years, but as I've got older I have realised I am no longer into it like I once was and I can't afford to pay for something I now see more of a chore.

We do not have a contract or agreement in place as we're such good friends. I am still going to do the right thing and give 30 days notice though.

I just don't know how to have this conversation with her. It is so awkward, I know she is going to feel let down, and I am so worried about our friendship. It's a few weeks before Christmas, bills are getting extortionate, etc and the timing is awful so I feel such terrible.

Please help me know what to say or do. Thank you.

I’ve had plenty of sharers, I’d not lose sleep over this!
Just have a chat and say that due to COL/not getting and younger/other commitments it just doesn’t work for you anymore, but you’ve loved it and will happily give her/the horse a good reference if she needs one for a new sharer.
There is never a shortage of people looking for shares so I’d not feel bad.

Just tell her that it's too much for you, if she's a good friend, she'll understand.

Thank you! This is her first sharer so very new to us both and I don't think she's going to take it well, but your comment has been reassuring to hear - thank you :)

The thing is that she has had to share her horse because she can't do him full time due to finances/ time constraints etc , she knows how much work it is.
