Riding in the USA (north-east)?

I know this is a long shot, but thought I’d try. I’m looking for somewhere to ride when we visit the US--somewhere in New York/Massachusetts/Maine/Connecticut. We want to go on a trail ride/hack with DD (both experienced riders). The only places I’ve found so far are riding-school type places, rather than trail riding. Quite a few places that I’d found initially have closed down. Ideally, it would be ranch sort of place where we could stay. Any suggestions much appreciated 😀

You'd be unlikely to find a 'ranch sort of place' in that part of the US, as there are no ranches there. It's much more like Surrey than the wild west. There isn't as much publicly accessible land to ride on in those parts of the country. I would actually contact the riding schools and ask if they do trail rides or if not, if they could recommend somewhere nearby that would. Also, as that is covering a massive area, I would decide where you are likely to be staying and then ask your booked accommodation for recommendations. That said, I googled horse riding in Maine and there look to be loads of options (Carousel Horse Farm?). But there is just such huge distance between those states, you really need to choose an area where you want to look.
