How much would you expect to pay for this horse?

I loosely considered selling my horse as I really, really need bigger but I’m undecided as of yet (I have had him too long and love him too much to part with him!). I saw a similar post on this site with someone considering selling their horse (who sounded similar to mine in many ways) but when I read it, nobody had commented about how much to expect for that type of horse in today’s market. I’ve known for a while that I need 16.2+ as my boy is just too small for me now. He’s not my first horse but I’ve not bought in a long time and don’t know what the prices are like now. I know they went up hugely with covid and then down again recently

  • 15.2

  • 7

  • cob (irish MW type)

  • Has been out and about hacking and is safe in traffic. Sometimes looks at things but isn’t known to spook.

  • Has been XC schooled and enjoys jumping but sometimes needs a bit of leg.

  • Needs some work on flatwork as a bit green- can transition nicely but isn’t in an outline and can sometimes get excitable in canter. Would do a nice dressage test with some schooling and basic work. Currently in a snaffle

  • generally well behaved but sometimes a bit quirky, consistent with age and lack of real experience- doesn’t dump riders but can occasionally get exciteable and do small bucks and hop.

  • usually good to handle, could stand and groom for hours- fine with dogs and children. Can occasionally get bolshy and previously bolted but this was at a time when he had 15 minutes a day of turnout. Since turning out, ground manners have been much better.

  • no sweet itch but can get a bit stressed and upset if lots of flies are bothering him.

  • passed a 5 stage with flying colours, slightly toe in but vet unconcerned as sound

  • good in open spaces but enjoys a gallop too

  • Has done local low level sj competitions. Enjoys jumping but can get lazy if not enough leg

  • behaves for the vet and farrier

in this market around 6kish
with a bit of work on the greenness and a bit more schooling he’d be what everyone wants and would probably get 10k…

The problem you have is he doesn’t have the talent a more advanced rider wants but can buck/be bolshy. Safe sound cobs are worth their weight but he isn’t quite that. I would say around 4k but you could try for more.

I'd say around £5000
