Wondering if I might garner some travel clothing advice- I'm moving my retired pony 200 miles next week using an experienced insured etc transporter. I've always just been a hobby owner and only travelled her 30 mins tops where she just went in the box naked. She did sweat up a lot whenever I've travelled her so I'm wondering if I need a cooler/sweat rug? She's unclipped so full winter coat. Not sure if anything on top of that might make her hotter.

I wouldn’t personally - particularly if she’s travelling with other horses as they generate a fair amount of heat.

Think she's going alone but think you're right, it'll just make her hotter. Thank you!

I’d not rug an unclipped horse. Maybe take a thermatex or similar and keep an eye on how she’s doing. Can always throw one on.

Yes I think she should probably be fine on the van, she shouldn't need a rug particularly if she usually sweats up. If you won't have one with you at the destination though I'd have a thin fleece or wicking cooler available, one of mine was a terrible traveller and would always come off his (infrequent I hasten to add!) van trips very sweaty, if he'd then been bunged straight into a stable in winter to stand for 8 hours or something he would have got cold so I used to walk him up and down and get a pick of grass for 20 mins or so, brush off the worst sweat and then pop a cooler on for an hour or so before leaving him for the night...
