Possible Splint
NoProblem123 · 11/04/2021 07:48
Fairly large (bigger than a 10p piece) inside off fore, just below knee). Looks like a splint but is cold and horse seems completely sound and happy.
Has popped up overnight.
I thought they were hot and sore to start with - does this sound like a splint ?
I’d treat it with cold hose and bite but there doesn’t seem much point - any ideas for treatment or is it a vet call out ?

If no lameness - leave well alone. Don't think they can be treated anyway and are just as likely to disappear in time - my mare had a fairly big one which appeared out of nowhere. Never any lamness or soreness. One day I noticed it had gone!

Thanks for your reply - There’s so much conflicting advice online
I’ve hosed it because I’m thinking it won’t do any harm but I’m going to leave & watch !

Hosing certainly won't do any harm, and if you are in a position to chuck him out in a field for a week or 2 just to be on the safe side then that's always an option but if there is absolutely no heat, tenderness or lameness then you are probably able to have him back in work in no time.
I really think the only "treatment" for splints is time. My mare had one the size of a hen's egg at one time - absolutely nothing to see now!
