Box rest

Any ideas of how to make box rest more interesting? Thanks

Jolly ball
Dodecahedron treat ball thing
Double up haynets or buy smaller holed ones to give them something to work on for longer
Mirror
Depending on how stringent box rest is perhaps a walk around the yard.
I’ll add more if I think of anything. Hope your horse gets better soon!

I've just bought my pony s gsy ball. She likes it and her hay ration lasts twice as long so I think it was worth the investment

Treat balls
Mirrors
Treats tied to ropes
If you can hand walk them I definitely would

Depends what the box rest is for. Our boy ran through a fence and cut his leg within a week of us getting him. He wasn't even allowed out of his box for 4 weeks and then only tiny hand walks for 4 more. We tied up some toys to play with as he liked to mouth them he liked the grass boredom buster balls and small haynets often rather than a big one to last for a longer time (he still gets highly excited by a change of haynet bless him. We froze apples and carrots into very week apple juice to give him home made ice lollies which he liked when it was hot. We also got a treat ball but had to monitor it carefully as he had a habit of trying to boot it pretty hard with his stitched leg. He also just really enjoyed us spending time with him, grooming and fussing him. I wish that it hadn't happened and it was certainly tough but now years later I can see it really helped us bond so take the positives where you can.

Also just got my horse and he’s arrived with a cold. Needs 7 days isolation (not strangles, vet has tested). Thanks for all of the great ideas

My horse was on box rest for 7 months. Did all of the above plus a radio on all day.

A stable with a window facing a different direction from the doorway is a bonus. One yard I was at we did box rest in a stable facing the school and fields so they could watch other horses. Lots of grooming and maybe some massage and physio exercises to break up the day.
