How longs does yours last?? I have a big round bale of hay which lasts one horse 3.5 weeks but I'm not mean with it.

To me 3.5 weeks is about right for a bale of hay. How much hay that is in the bale depends on how much pressure was used on the baler when it was baled. Our bales take 2/3 of us to move at times

At the moment two weeks between a TB and Shetland. I swear I don't know where they are stuffing it Confused

I have admit this years rounds have come up smaller, and it was this years cut (June)

We share bales but go through two a day between thirty to forty horses.

Thanks guys! I'm looking to take on a little welsh to keep my boy company. So I was just wondering roughy how long it would last with the two!

The smaller the pony the faster the hay consumption. My ponies wouldn't stop to breathe if they had a bale in their field.

whymewhyme · 08/01/2019 19:05

I won't be feeding in the field, stables only!

I weigh my Hayley's. The ponies have a 3kg Haynet overnight, in trickle nets

Fireinthegrate · 08/01/2019 21:26

3 wks for my 15.1hh mare. Ad lib and she’s in the stable 20 hrs/day (unfortunately)

Cariadxx · 10/01/2019 13:37

Mine last 6 days between 3 section ds, 2 section As and 2 sheep. They are massive though, farmer weighed them at 280kg approx and hubby can barely move one in his own.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 11/01/2019 22:06

Mine usually last a week or so - between 3 in the field, pretty much ad lib (they get it netted on the floor, but there's always hay left in the nets). They do vary a bit - this year I've had one bale last 11 days, but another one only lasted 5 days (it was very soft, sort of disintegrated, but evidently very palatable!).

I will report back! Little ponyo arrived today!
