We are away for Christmas this year and DH and I need a way to escape the house for a couple hours sanity.
In the past we've either been to our Boxing Day shoot or been to see the local hunt leave. Since we are away it seems like a couple hours watching the hunt might just fit the bill, but I'm having an issue finding out where they will be (understandably they don't make a huge song and dance about it because of the antis)
At home I have contacts for our local hunt and beagle pack so I've never had any difficulty finding out where to go, this year I'm stumped Hmm
Does anyone have a copy of the Horse & Hound with the meets in, or indeed any insider knowledge please?

I think I have an H&H - where in the country are you?

FaintlyBaffled · 11/12/2017 14:36

Hmm, that would have made my post a lot clearer wouldn't it fiere Grin
We will be in Suffolk. DM live in Aldeburgh so around that area would be perfect Smile

Most hunts dont seem to be distributing meet cards to local landowners now, it seems that you have to ring the secretary. I dont know if this is due to printing costs, or worries of trouble from sabs!

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 14:46

Your idea of a few hours to yourself on Boxing Day is watching living creatures either being hunted or shot?
Wow. Never been so glad to be the person I am.

stripeysocks3 · 11/12/2017 14:49

Vile.

onlyconnectfour · 11/12/2017 14:52

Oh here they come - the holierthanthou townies.

Do fuck off and acquaint yourselves with the Hunting Act then come and have an informed debate.

ALL hunts are drag or within the terms of the law.

landgirl1 · 11/12/2017 14:52

Wow daydream needs to keep up, hunting has been banned for years it’s now all about trail hunting which is a form of reenactment, OP it’s worth checking out the blood & drag hounds as well as they tend to publish their meet cards online. Also facebook. Trail hunts tend to be secretary only .

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 14:55

Grew up in the countryside actually, family home is still there. Irrelevant though where anyone is from, there are many people in my parents village who are appalled at any local hunts in shoots.
I need to educate myself? Love a bit of irony Grin Op clearly states in her post she 'enjoys' watching shooting.

landgirl1 · 11/12/2017 14:55

Check out the countryside alliance website as they have a map of Boxing Day meets freely available. I can see 4 in east anglia :)

onlyconnectfour · 11/12/2017 14:58

If you don't like hunting Daydream that's just jolly good for you. Don;t do it.

While it remains legal within the 2004 Act, others will enjoy it.

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 14:59

Oh for goodness sake it's common knowledge in my parents village that the hunting laws are blatantly ignored.
You don't have to dig deep to find recent photos of appalling acts of cruelty, done in the name of 'sport'
But hey, knock yourself out op, enjoy your time away with your dh on Boxing Day.

Lexilooo · 11/12/2017 15:01

Try the local bloodhound pack, they are normally much more open about where they are meeting and it is great fun to watch!

RefuseTheLies · 11/12/2017 15:02

ALL hunts are drag or within the terms of the law

That’s not actually true though, is it? They are supposed to be, but there are illegal hunts still.

waxahatchee · 11/12/2017 15:06

😂😂😂

Oh here they come - the holierthanthou townies.

Not a townie love.

FaintlyBaffled · 11/12/2017 15:09

Wow, that escalated quickly Grin
Thanks for all the pointers and, for the sake of clarity, I didn't clearly state I "liked watching shooting"
The reason I never said any such thing is because DH and I actually shoot (or to be extremely precise, we beat on the Boxing Day shoot)
I make no apologies for our choices and am
all for clear and enforceable regulation. I also prefer to spend my Boxing Day in the fresh air rather than sat in front of the TV. I'm always rather mystified when people who are actively anti hunting click on a thread simply to be sanctimonious Hmm

Yes of course, the only alternative to that IS watching animals get shot.

Please don't support something that at the very minimum greatly distresses wild animals.
If you're horsey could you arrange to go on a hack? Or a walk in the countryside and a visit to a pub.
Please don't support blood sports

littlemisscomper · 11/12/2017 15:23

Boxing Day's never been the same since they cancelled the traditional 'Slaves vs Lions' amphitheater events! It's just these bloody soft townies spoiling everyone's fun with their ridiculous 'empathy' and 'compassion'!

(And by the way everyone, foxes enjoy being hunted, and pheasants being shot, so it's fine and you can chill out!)

Vitalogy · 11/12/2017 15:40

Waste of time trying to convince them, they're on lower state of consciousness, they won't understand.

GothMummy · 11/12/2017 16:06

The hunts local to me follow an artificial scented trail Confused. Cant see the problem with shooting, unless you dont eat meat and dont believe that animals should be killed at all, in which case, fair enough.

Butkin1 · 11/12/2017 16:55

We would normally follow the Thurlow or the Suffolk on Boxing Day but we're in West Suffolk - miles from you. I'm not sure where your nearest meet will be but contact the Waveney Hunt and the Essex and Suffolk Hunt - via the Countryside Alliance website - and they will advise you.

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 17:02

None of your business but no I don't eat meat or wear leather. I grew up in a farming community and couldn't wait to escape the narrow minded, stifling 'community' that it was (and escape the hunting brigade)
Yep, to become a townie.

waxahatchee · 11/12/2017 17:35

This is the most ridiculous comment because everyone who is not hunting or shooting is watching TV. There is nothing else to do whatsoever. Hmm
