Can anyone help me with the Boxing Day hunt meetings please?

We are away for Christmas this year and DH and I need a way to escape the house for a couple hours sanity.
In the past we've either been to our Boxing Day shoot or been to see the local hunt leave. Since we are away it seems like a couple hours watching the hunt might just fit the bill, but I'm having an issue finding out where they will be (understandably they don't make a huge song and dance about it because of the antis)
At home I have contacts for our local hunt and beagle pack so I've never had any difficulty finding out where to go, this year I'm stumped Hmm
Does anyone have a copy of the Horse & Hound with the meets in, or indeed any insider knowledge please?

Oh dear God OP - never start a thread about hunting on MN! I've learned my lesson after being told by one particularly vile individual that as I Hunt I was certain to abuse my child and I should be allowed to be a mother and I was a cruel, evil person.

Most hunts these days have websites; if you can have a gander at a hunt map and find which pack it would be then you could give the sec. a ring. Failing that, try asking on the H&H forum.

Orlandointhewilderness · 11/12/2017 17:39

Shouldn't even! Bloody auto correct!

Fekko · 11/12/2017 17:39

We walk in the hills - used to take the hoses out for a nice poddle around the back of the village and along the river.

Don't like hunting or the pretend type which isn't always pretend.

terfing · 11/12/2017 17:44

This may be the first time in my life that I genuinely wish someone a shit Christmas!

doozeldog · 11/12/2017 17:45

Oh dear! Can't people just live and let live! Hope you find a local hunt and have a lovely day!

FaintlyBaffled · 11/12/2017 17:48

Yes orlando, I've realised that now Grin
I particularly liked the bit where it was suggested I put my head in a bear trap, I assume the child abuse accusations will follow in due course.

Anyway, for any other mindless morons who enjoy the ritual slaughter of innocent animals, I have undertaken some research and have found a harrier pack rather close by. I've never seen harriers in action so I'm quite keen to see how things happen Smile

doozeldog please re-read the irony in your message.

Live and let live would mean don't go chasing and killing animals too surely.

I sugested a hack if the OP is horsey.

This is what I really dislike about the horsey set. I ride but don't get involved with many of them as too many seem to enjoy shoving their horses over dangerous ditches and seeing dogs rip a fox to shreds.

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 18:02

'Live and let live' Oh my, are you ok there op? Hmm

Ollivander84 · 11/12/2017 18:06

I went on a hunt ride, it was fab. Which is basically a big group going for a hack, no hounds involved but permission to ride places you can't usually go. No hunting at all

mrspatel77 · 11/12/2017 18:08

Anyone who enjoys seeing an animal cowering in fear in the name of fun needs their head looking at. Idiot.

Eve · 11/12/2017 18:10

.... how many of you objecting to hunting and shooting will have had your turkey the day before?

Do you have any clue how those or raised and killed?

Fekko · 11/12/2017 18:12

Haven't eaten turkey since 1985z

Mumofazoo · 11/12/2017 18:13

I don’t think not agreeing with seeing an innocent animal being ripped to shreds means that you must be a ‘townie’ I am lucky enough to own horses and live in the countryside. Yet I cannot not stand hunts and yes many illegal ones do happen.

waxahatchee · 11/12/2017 18:14

21 years since I ate meat. Don't worry, if the Tory government have their Way you'll be able to hunt the real thing legally again soon OP.

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 18:15

I haven't eaten turkey since Christmas 1983 aged 11.
Your question is both dull and oh so predictable but nice try.

NameChanger22 · 11/12/2017 18:16

Disgusting. I thought hunting was banned?

Fekko · 11/12/2017 18:16

I'm only a townie these days but get back to my roots often (straw in hair, shit on boots, manky wax jacket...). Hunting still sucks though.

TheCatIsMyEnemy · 11/12/2017 18:16

how many of you objecting to hunting and shooting will have had your turkey the day before

Not me.

However FWIW chasing a terrified animal and then ripping it to shreds just for the lolz is IMO not the same thing as killing an animal in order to eat it.

I say that as a veggie.

Vitalogy · 11/12/2017 18:23

mindless morons who enjoy the ritual slaughter of innocent animals, Well at least you're owning it, I'll give you that.

WhatABaklava · 11/12/2017 18:23

There’s always some illegal hare-coursing going on in Cambridgeshire- perhaps you could get together with one of the local (but illegal) groups round here and satisfy your animal-torture viewing and need for fresh air with them?

Or perhaps that’s not quite the image you’re seeking?

I have no problem whatsoever with pest control. Our next door neighbour is a farmer who (humanely) traps foxes and shoots them. But please do not tell me that 50 adults, horses and dogs, (whatever the number is) vs one Fox is an efficient method of pest control. You are simply desperate to be part of an image - it’s terribly sad and I feel sorry you don’t have greater strength of character.

You are no different to hare-courses. No different at all. You should always, always remember that. I pity you.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 11/12/2017 18:24

Research has found you something of interest - so, essentially your original post was goady (yes, really).
Another couple of suggestions:
Volunteer yourself as the "drag".
Your DH puts something else in the bear trap - not his foot or head - though perhaps a mouse trap might suffice.

FaintlyBaffled · 11/12/2017 18:57

No, not goady otters, goady would have been posting this in AIBU Grin

FWIW I've not actually followed the hunt since I was quite young. On Boxing Day we normally wander up to where the hunt is meeting, soak up the atmosphere for a bit, watch them leave and then go to the pub home.
As for the other suggestions, I am actually not in the least bit horsey (since I'm actually quietly terrified of horses) and country walks don't really do it for me as I live in the country and have three working dogs.

Ah well, I'm off to order DH a mouse trap Grin

OP posts:
timeforabrewnow · 11/12/2017 19:23

If you're frightened of horses why would you follow the hunt or live in the country with 'working' dogs??

Soaking up the atmosphere of all the stuck-up toffs on their horses - blowing their stupid little horn. FFS - your post has worked - consider me goaded.

Pathetic.
