Can anyone help me with the Boxing Day hunt meetings please?

We are away for Christmas this year and DH and I need a way to escape the house for a couple hours sanity.
In the past we've either been to our Boxing Day shoot or been to see the local hunt leave. Since we are away it seems like a couple hours watching the hunt might just fit the bill, but I'm having an issue finding out where they will be (understandably they don't make a huge song and dance about it because of the antis)
At home I have contacts for our local hunt and beagle pack so I've never had any difficulty finding out where to go, this year I'm stumped Hmm
Does anyone have a copy of the Horse & Hound with the meets in, or indeed any insider knowledge please?

Why on earth have you crossed out to the pub. Do you think that might be morally questionable? Your morals appear to be a little off OP.

cocoboots · 11/12/2017 19:45

Being frightened of horses but wanting to follow a hunt ... all the gear and no idea eh?

daydreamnation · 11/12/2017 20:14

Hilarious that you've crossed out the pub. The only rational and sane part of your 'time away' with your dh.
Ffs, some people. What a sad world.

The Surrey Union hunt is always a good day

Otterturk · 11/12/2017 20:40

Sorry - just realised that's totally useless as you won't be near there.

Orlandointhewilderness · 13/12/2017 22:43

oh no op - not working dogs!!! Don't bring shooting into it too!!!

LEMtheoriginal · 13/12/2017 22:57

I am an ex sab (albeit a long long long time ago).

Never really understood the mentality of hunt followers myself. It's all a bit sycophantic and wannabe really isn't it. I do understand how one might find taking part in the hunt exciting apart from the needless killing actually. I've torn across exmoor on horseback - fucking amazing - didn't kill anything though! I've been to Olympia and watched some amazing horsemanship. I can't afford a horse of my own. Why is want to go and watch a bunch of people milling around the town square before their hunt is beyond me. It's all a bit hyacinth bucket for me. But then there's the terrier men - men who wouldn't be out of place in a high security prison.. .really unpleasant. Doubt you'd want to share your sherry with them!

I hate being stuck indoors on boxing day too - so I go for a fucking as. In the country. Where I live!

I guess someone will come along and tell me I don't understand very soon.

LEMtheoriginal · 13/12/2017 22:59

Walk!! As= walk obviously!!!!

Orlandointhewilderness · 13/12/2017 23:38

hah LEM we may have vastly differing opinions but that is one hell of an auto correct you got there! Grin

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/12/2017 23:57

DH used to run for our local hunt. He’d either go for a pee in the hound truck or get given a bottle of something to pour on his running shoes. He’d then proceed to run for bloody miles chased by the hounds and riders.

FaintlyBaffled · 14/12/2017 07:25

I thought I'd managed to get away with that little slip up orlando Grin
The only PP who picked up on it before you said I had no need to have working dogs or live in the country as I don't like horses Grin

Otterturk , DC is out with the Surrey Union next week! Agree it is a little bit far from Suffolk though Grin

WhyDidIEatThat · 15/12/2017 23:33

Will be hunting on Boxing Day in Suffolk, half an hour from Aldeburgh. PM for details if you like.

fidgettt · 15/12/2017 23:51

Oh here they come - the holierthanthou townies

Soaking up the atmosphere of all the stuck-up toffs on their horses

Stupid comments such as the above are the problem with hunting debates.* Is it really necessary to try to apply a derogatory stereotype to anyone who disagrees with your point of view? Or is there nobody in the world who isn't either an ignorant townie or a stuck up toff!? This argument is pathetic.*

Is it really so hard to imagine that someone may not be a stupid arsehole just because they disagree with you?

(And yes, I do have strongly held views on hunting.)

WhyDidIEatThat · 24/12/2017 09:06

We honestly follow an artificially scented trail, quite sedately at that. I’ve never seen anything untoward although I’m sure it happens elsewhere from time to time.

FaintlyBaffled · 24/12/2017 10:43

I'm very excited anyway why as I've never actually seen harriers in action
After the last few days I could do with a break Grin

doozledog

" Oh dear! Can't people just live and let live! Hope you find a local hunt and have a lovely day "

And the irony award goes to...

WhyDidIEatThat · 24/12/2017 14:00

Nobody usually dies with our lot, either furry or human animal - even back in the day when it was permissible they just went round in circles.

yorkshires · 24/12/2017 14:17

A friend of mine ended up in a wheelchair after the nasty hunt rode over her legs when she was protesting the cruel 'sport'

yorkshires · 24/12/2017 14:18

She didn't die I suppose Hmm

WhyDidIEatThat · 24/12/2017 16:46

That’s dreadful 🙀 there are some truly bad people in the world.
