Riding holiday - America

Looking into a riding hol in America. Has anyone done this?

No but I'd love to. Unhelpful I know!
I also want to go to the place in the UK where all the horses are heavy horses!

Not been to America but did go to Botswana and South Africa with In The Saddle so can recommend them as a tour operator and maybe a place to start looking.

Yes, years ago, Paradise Ranch in Wyoming, had a great time. We stayed in very luxurious wood "cabins" had great food, sang round the campfire, the wranglers carried guns just in case we met a large aggressive animal when out. Buying into the whole dude ranch thing sounds a bit naff when you are here at home in the UK, once you et there it is a very special experience. Happy memories of the chuck waggon pulled by a mule coming out to meet us at lunch time.
