Is anyone else's horse losing the plot a bit at the moment?

I know it is spring, and they all get a bit full of it at this time of year, but this year my usually sensible, 18 year old horse seems to be taking it to extremes. I rode him today, and he was a complete lunatic from start to finish! It is the first time in two years I have not enjoyed riding him. I've already cut his feed by half, but I think I may have to reduce it by more. Is anyone else having the same issue, or is it just mine?

Our grass is finally coming through. DCob is coming in with grass glands and spooked at the gate to her field this morning. She is 17. Idiots.

24 year old Warmblood is being completely loopy at the moment . Nearly flattened me on the yard this evening spooking whilst tied up at ...... A bale of straw . That had been there before he was tied up . I rang a friend on another yard last night , and her horse has been a complete prat too , for the last week , refused to walk along a path he walks on virtually daily as if it were hot coals . Idiots .

I'm sort of glad its not just mine. I hope they settle back down soon! I ache all over from trying to control the crazy beast yesterday.

Our 31 yo has decided after years of retirement that she really wants to come out with dhorse and have some fun. She keeps escaping from the field and trying to follow us. Nice to see her being all springlike at her age but annoying as well!

My 7 year old tried to follow a Labrador under a fence this morning! Also tried to mug an elderly couple of their map. He's not normal.

Oh indeed. Both of our ponies were behaving like arses yesterday. We went on a hack which they both know very well. They refused to walk over a piece of tarmac because it was a different colour,and spooked because there was a traffic cone in a gateway that we weren't even going through. They are both 25,so old enough to know better.

Mine are on zero hard feed now - don't want to risk laminitis with the rich grass. Or ridden explosions ;)

Ha ha horsemadmom dpony tried to take a chunk out of me yesterday. She knows better than to do that. I think they are both in season at the minute and the girls riding lesson could be described as fast and bouncy.

I had the riding lesson from hell yesterday. It consisted of 'shan't' and ended up with me in tears :(

Oh dear, is someone putting rocket fuel in the grass this year or something? We've had one person bucked off a normally sensible pony, and one previously happy traveler go loopy in a trailer this week at our yard!

Mine used to have September as her bonkers month.

Made the most of the rocket fuel today and jumped. Not sure where I found my brave pants as I've not left the ground in over a year!

It is many mnay years since I had horses but this thread title brought a smile to my face as I remember hours chasing horses round the fields when the grass comes in.

Ha ha yeah chasing them round when even a bucket of feed isn't as good as the lush grass... I have tiny paddocks for summer

At least dhorse still comes running even if he has grass, he's a friendly soul like that, but he was a nightmare to ride today. I thought I'd got away with it because I've only been doing short hacks with him as I had no one to go out with, and he's been pretty calm. Today I had a companion (so went on a decent hack) and he made up for it big time with lots of surprise leaps in the air and jogging about.He even shied violently at a sparrow . I thought I'd had it when a road sweeping machine appeared, what a relief when it turned off in another direction!
