Horse mad 7 year old - mother without a clue

Hi ladies i've come to ask for a bit of help.

My 7 year old daughter has been horse mad for about 18 months and desperate to learn to ride.

My husband has suggested letting her have one lesson to see if she still likes it as shes never been on a horse.

What am i letting myself in for?? I haven't ridden since i rode my friends horse about 15 years ago and wouldn't know one end of a brush from another!!

Haahaa They get like that, what area are you in we will find you a good riding school, then you path is all laid out.

Im in Jersey in the Channel Islands.

Well actually as the story goes, her Auntie has a horse and a pony which aren't broken in for riding yet (if thats the right term).

shes been up once and loves the pony, was helping groom and feed her, and she wasn't scared, hence why im willing to put her in for lessons.

DD1 came home from that session and informed her dad that 'I had fun daddy....can i have a horse?'

Which is soooo not something we can afford over here! So i'm going to book her a lesson as a surprise and take her there.

I'm wondering if i can have a lesson as well but im 16st so doubt they will have anything that can take my weight :(

First lesson is now on Sunday. DD1 is now hyper.

Just to say we took DD on holiday to Jersey in September and we had the most lovely time at St Brelades! We visited the racecourse but sadly just missed their last meeting on August Bank Holiday. I expect that riding opportunities are more limited due to the lack of space but hope she had a good time. We sold our leading rein Section A (a beautiful palomino) to some people in Guernsey and he spent a short time on Jersey on the way there..

I would guess they would have a good weight carrier. I am a bit of a chubs too, so whilst I am only short I have a great big weight carrier!

I'm tall as well as being heavy. I'm 5ft 9 so would have to be a big weight carrier! Im losing anyway so will be my reward.

Butkin the coastal rides over here are amazing! Cliff walks, woods, on the beach so whilst we're small it seems there are loads of places she can go eventually

mine is 16.2. shes a draft horse cross. fab and very easy to handle. good luck

Most riding schools weight limit is 12 stone so you will have to phone around.
Great about the Auntie at least she can groom them hang around them, is Auntie planing to great them broke soon? Bit they may not be suitable to ride till Dd1 has had a lot more lesson.
