I am registering a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority; anyone want to join me?

I am going to complain about this advert for Coral Online Betting.

It is shown during coverage of horse-racing on Channel 4 so I am registering a complaint with Channel 4 too here.

The advert is, imo, horribly sexist and insulting to women.

I know that not everyone is a fan of horse-racing but as you know, there are some fantastic female jockeys out there such as Cathy Gannon, Nina Carberry, Katie Walsh, Amy Ryan, Hayley Turner, Laura Pike and many others who have a hard enough time as it is being taken seriously in their chosen profession in what can be a hugely misogynistic arena, without bilge such as the above being broadcast on a major tv channel.

I'm not disagreeing, I also abhore sexist advertising, but do you complain about them all?

The reason I ask is because, in my opinion, this particular advert is by no means the worst, not even close, and that makes my wonder if it might be better to find a way to complain about all sexist advertising.

Adisheatencold I agree that there probably are worse advertisements out there but I was going for a specific, achievable goal.

I was hoping that if I could get this advert banned (resulting in the company losing the money they spent on it) then it would make others think twice.

I agree that probably makes sense, as a first campaign, but in that case wonder if it might not be better to target a more overtly sexist advert. What made you choose that one, in particular?

(I'm wondering if it's the horse or racing connection? I can see that would make your target 'audience' more specific).

Yes Adishbettereatencold I'm a horse-racing fan. It's a horribly sexist world (just ask Clare Balding). And female jockeys have their work cut out being taken seriously. They are increasing in number though ... we shall overcome and all that!
