...and just chuck some new straw in on top of the poo? It's blowing a gale, pouring, I've hurt my toe and my wellies leak.

Do it, you'll regret it if you don't.......honestly a quick pick up should only take a few minutes, but if you pile clean straw on top excavating it tomorrow will take ages....
