Are they supposed to be quite close-fitting? DD wants one. She is a 32" chest currently but growing fast! Don't really want to buy one that she will grow out of too soon.

yes they are but it depends if dd wears a back protector as my ds wears his under his jacket (unless wearing his p2 for xc). personally with winter shows, i would buy a size bigger anyway so you can pop a gillet underneath & then hope it fits for the summer :-)

Excellent! Thanks trueblood. I didn't think about her body protector.

Do you do many winter shows? It would maybe be better to get one in the spring and save a few months growing.

Hi Cat

she only really does about 5 a year at her riding school. Last time she did quite well in the dressage comp but got marked down for not having a 'proper' jacket!! Next one is in Jan - hence the need to get one now. Have found second hand one on pre-loved that I can afford.

Thanks for your help x

eBay then. Make sure you get the right colour though! It's a minefield! Smile

Woah! Right colour? Is there some sort of hidden code>

depends on what your dc do but black is acceptable in most bar showing which is tweed for adults. what colour is your dc hat as blue also goes with most. you can get unisex ones that hold their value. O:-)

Thanks for all your advice. Got a second hand one from Preloved. Black.

Black for shop jumping or dressage.

For showing it is tweed in colours to match pony/hat unless she is riding a Show Pony in which case blue with blue velvet hat/cover. Black is not correct for showing.

My advice is to buy the best you can afford from Ebay as they usually hold their values pretty well on there when you resell. We've sold jackets on Ebay for more than we've paid for them.

For showing you should go for close fitting as it looks neater. For jumping you'd want something with more give. DD doesn't wear a back protector for showing and wears it over her jacket for Working Hunter Pony jumping.

If buying for Winter shows then DD would squeeze a cardigan under her jacket so buying a little on the big side is OK. She has a range of sizes/colours for whatever she is doing and then we just sell them on when she's outgrown them. Don't lose much - if anything - on them.
