Does anyone have a pony/horse I can ride at weekends in return for financial contribution / help with stable duties (must be near Dorking, Surrey)?

I have just moved to Surrey (near Leigh which is near Dorking) and am desparately seeking a horse or pony to ride and not having much luck finding one . Have advertised in all the usual places (Preloved, Equine Ads etc).

There are loads of farms and stables around my house so thinking there must be a lovely pony out there somewhere, I just can't find it! Is it acceptable to knock farms doors and ask or is that really weird........

I am a novice and have not ridden for several years (although I know all the basics of both riding and horse care as used to help at livery yard as teenager, am keen, willing to learn and very sensible and responsible) so am looking for something super safe to build my confidence. I just want to do a bit of light hacking and schooling, nothing more, so I really am looking for a very calm, gentle equine friend with no nasty habits!

I am happy to pay a financial contribution and muck out the odd stable, pick up some poo etc in return for riding. I am fairly lightweight (9 stone) so could ride a pony as well as a horse.

I am only available at weekends (possibly some evenings depending on location and whether there are floodlit facilities as I work full time). I have my own car and can travel, but ideally I am looking for something within a 20 minute drive.

If anyone can help, or knows anyone who might be able to, or has any tips for finding a horse to ride please let me know.

Ps 20 mins is fits, Lisa d it would be about a 40 min drive to you from where she is I expect!
The yard I know actually is listed as Burrows Lea Livery..they have ponies on livery where owners sometimes looking for sharers etc. look it up and give them a call, no need for me to ask!
