best make for curry comb, body brush, mane brush etc

Hi, I need to buy my own grooming kit, previously borrowed. The horse I will look after lives out all year round, is currently clipped with rug, and gets pretty muddy.

These are what i think I need:
Hoof pick.with brush
Mane/tail brush
Rubber curry comb
Dandy brush
Body brush
face brush

if I have missed anything pls let me know and what is best manufacturer?

Get cheap hoof pick, as they always get lost!
Mane and tail the ones that look like round hairbrushes are good
Mane and tail detangler (keeps some of the mud off too)
Dandy brush a flick one is best

No, I have a Couple of Bentley brushes and they are always the ones I reach for!

We swear by the Oster range - you can get them quite reasonably now at places at Amazon as well as good tack shops. They are high end with prices to match.

One bit of kit we wouldn't be without - we have 3! - is a metal serrated brush that is in concentric circles. I like a plastic curry comb for severe mud removal, and nice soft rubber curry combs for doing down their legs.

The round mane/tail brushes are my favourite too - dpony has a very, very long and full mane, and it still only takes me 5 minutes to sort his mane out with that - no rug and v muddy too.

I forgot my other favourite thing, which is the furminator - brilliant for getting shed hair out

you can get a sort of metal scraper like a metal curry comb or shedding blade. Most horses won't let you use them on their heads though. They are both fab at getting off dried on lumps of mud, they make a lot of dust though, that you can brush away. If it's just a matter of getting the horse clean enough to ride I would just remove mud from wherever the tack goes and not bother with a full groom everyday. If horse comes in over night and you will ride in the morning I like to hose the legs down as they come in while the mud is still wet. It's a good opportunity to check for injuries.

sorry, in the second link the shedding blade is the top and middle one (the top one is it bent and handles hooked together so you can use it one handed). They are double sided, use the serrated side for mud removal, and the smooth one for removing water after washing or for sweat.

I second the Furminator - we have one and use it extensively in the Spring to get their coats out. Not for use at this time of year though.

Yes to Furminator, they are fab.
Don't buy one of those hoof picks with the brush attached, I always find the brush bit sticks into my wrist and it hurts! I tie a loop of brightly coloured twine to my hoofpick which makes it easier to spot so I rarely lose them.
You will need sponges or similar for cleaning nostrils/docks etc. The cheap baby ones from superdrug or boots are quite a good size and nice and soft.
