My friend's DS loves riding but it is causing very sore testicles. He hasn't ridden for about 6 weeks to give them a rest, but it started again as soon as he got on today. The poor thing is gutted.

Have any of you come across this, and have any tips to help the poor lad? He's 10 btw

My 28 year old male friend who has been riding for 4/5 months swears by very tight pants. He sort of hitches everything up and says the difference between that and wearing loose boxers is amazing! Says rising trot was like taking his life in his hands before tight Y fronts Grin

Never ever ride in boxers! They will cut a bloke to bits. He needs good old fashioned y fronts or jockey shorts that keep the jewels out of the way. Also, is the saddle a high pommel at the front? If so and he is filling the seat he may be getting pushed forwards onto it which isn't pleasant!

Jam a clean dry car wash sponge down his jodhs. It worked for DS!

Thanks for the tips, I'll pass them on and hope that something works for the poor thing.

Any more ideas I'm sure will be gratefully received.

My husband started riding about 4 months ago (properly) and this was his biggest fear, and tbh it did hurt him at first but he copes and rides bareback a lot of the time.

He echos "tighty whiteys", stick your hand down your pants and lift everything up and out of the way (n.b., do not do this in front of small children), relax - because the more you tense up the more you bounce "against" the horse rather than moving "with" it and finally just practice until you figure out what's right for you.

The saddle also seems to make a difference, as I say he rides bareback, sometimes with a pad, OK in my GP but my dressage saddle practically castrates him.

He says it "really fucking hurts" after a vasectomy - probably not someting your son needs to worry about! Wink

It sounds like he could do with altering his seat a bit, et his weiht into his seat bones and off the front. Combined with tight pants that should sort it
