I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but just wanted to double check what the rider (my nine year old dd)should wear for best turned, out when riding a native ( a section a)? Cheers

Tweed jacket, yellowish/cream jods, brown jod boots with jod straps (unless the jods have elastic straps at the bottom), white shirt with tie that goes well with the jacket. She should have a velvet hat - either ideally a Charles Owen style showing hat or a velvet cover over a crash hat. Her hairstyle depends on her age. At 9 (same age as our DD) then the most fasionable style now is the single pony tale with a ribbon to match the tie. Some old fashioned judges still go for the bun / hair net combo but this isn't currently popular at high level showing.

Saddle shouldn't have any numnah showing and obviously for BTO all tack should be immaculate. Presumably she is off the lead in which case she should carry a show cane. Tie on her number with elastic (ideally to match the jacket) rather than the ribbon they hand out at shows.

We don't do BTO because the couple of times we have done it (just to get youngsters into the ring) we've been marked down for not plaiting. The sort of judges who do BTO usually like to reward plaiting but we don't think you should plait natives.
