Thanks POD- I have always been interested in team chasing and the website looked great except all the videos had ENORMOUS fences..... this, I could have managed 25 years ago as a crazy teen with an event pony, but now I'm strictly a 2ft max kind of a wimp...so I wondered if you could let me know what height in feet and inches are the novice events - 2ft 6? I guess there's not a class for those that are a tad ...um..cowardly all round is there? If there was a super novice class I'd be potentially interested but I guess this must be the kids team chasing!!

Thanks!

Ponyofdoom · 16/03/2012 21:40

Oh the novice courses are usually fine, I am a wuss but would do a novice after one whisky, max!!

My cousin used to team chase. She is currently looking for a mother/daughter share, but is staying away from bigger horses just in case she gets tempted back into it again. She has neither the time, money or nerve these days.Or so she claims......Wink

I would have loved to - before kids! There is a fab video on horse and hound of a riders view in a hunt club ride - amazing, like a horse simulator! :o

MightyNice · 28/03/2012 10:18

I would love love love to do this, would it have same effect on horse as hunting though? he loses his mind :(

can't help noticing how much stiffer he is becoming now and then, am not even sure if it is fair to do x country or sj this year - maybe we should just hack

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 28/03/2012 10:21

Just seen you are in Suffolk. Same here.

We are starting to do some sponsored /charity rides and my DH is quite interested in trying some endurance this year. Could be a good compromise?

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 28/03/2012 10:23

Duh, just realised who you are! :o

MightyNice · 28/03/2012 10:36

yes in my amazing anagram!

we can do that sort of thing, was talking about endurance rides yesterday - suffolk riding club did one from our yard last year, I was really excited following all the arrows only to get home and realise it was just one of our usual weekend routes!

horse fell over in school last week Shock, he is really not bendy (was 20m circle so not much to ask?) yet on hacks he is so balanced and flexible and happy, why put him through it really?

anyway how are your two?

Justfeckingdoit · 28/03/2012 10:40

Would love to do it, but post DD am a total wimp.

Had to hold onto the mane the first time I cantered post birth

Did manage a 90 cm jump the other day out hacking, but that was the Ned's idea, not mine.

Wish I had done it when I was a stupid fearless teen and 20 something.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 28/03/2012 10:46

All good, had some trailer problems, but improving. Gelding is being schooled a couple of times a week by a girl at the yard who has a lame horse, which is doing him some good.

We are going to do a charity ride on 13th May just outside Newmarket, 15miles. Perfect. For us, not far in the trailer for the mare and just the right amount of time to get sorted fitness (and behaviour - yes trollopy mare, I am looking at you!)

Might go to an endurance in kings forest later in the year then.

MightyNice · 28/03/2012 12:05

trailer Envy but sorry you have had problems, loading?

justfeckingdoit (great name!) I'm a jumping wimp recently, but think that's because we hardly do any now. Could do with being a bit wimpier about where we gallop, it honestly never occurred to me until out yesterday with someone on a young horse (that they are trying to sell, argh) that you should slow down and trot round very sharp corners Blush it's excruciating to have these things pointed out, I just don't think?

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 28/03/2012 12:28

I am very wussy now! Part of me still is this speed freak though! :o

Not loading no, loading is fine, sitting down in the trailer with any movement. Huge improvement with chiropractor visit and lots of polos!

Justfeckingdoit · 28/03/2012 12:32

mightyNice Thanks :) and i slow down and crawl round corners now.

Unless stupid pony decides otherwise. Which is pretty much every time.

Actually rode a very sharp and speedy pony a few weeks ago in a western saddle and suddenly got the point of them! Lots to cling for dear life onto :)

elastamum · 28/03/2012 12:34

I used to team chase and drag hunt as a teen and evented pre kids. Loved it!! But as a 40 something lone parent with 2 small kids I am lucky to have a horse at all and now stay strictly on the ground as I cant afford time off for a fall and have had quite a few in my time! The big problem with team chasing is the speed, if you are at all competitive, combined with some huge solid fences. So it is not for the faint hearted.

Fortunately, our local bloodhound pack has a non jumping field for wimps like me! Grin
