cheap place to buy new adult jods and boots and which kind?

Haven't ridden for aeons, and when I did used to, 15+ years ago; I used to borrow stuff from schoolfriend. am going to have the opportunity to do so on hol in the next few weeks and would like to possibly investigate doing a bit more when not on hols.

Have you tried Robinsons country lesuire website. I haven't bought anything from there for a while but they have always been reasonably priced.

Or Ebay?

Ebay all the way. Cheap new stuff and even cheaper secondhand stuff.

I'd agree with Ebay. What you choose will really depend on what you plan to do. For hacking out anything goes and you can wear street wear on top and just decent jods (we like Harry Hall). Once you start competiting then costs go up because you need specifics and you could ask us again.

We are going to Spain on hol in Sept & I will be riding, in the mountains S of Granada, for the first time for pushing 20 years

It will be hot (30 degrees-ish) but I thought even so it would be much more comfortable with proper jodhs than not, so I've been looking at CMOT's suggestion of the K*ty ones on Equestrian Clearance - also with a view to maybe taking up riding again here afterwards (although I do feel a bit old to be picking this up again after such a long time...)

I'll need 34 long, which they have in chocolate, canary & cream - which would you recommend? Does the colour make any difference temp-wise?

& what about boots? (we'll be flying so weight is an issue)

Tesco - don't laugh, please. I had some very comfy jods and a much admired jacket from there.

My mum bought me some Tesco Jods, they are my comfiest pair and have lasted really well. They are also a decent thickness so they are flattering to the lumps and bumps!

Ditto Equestrian Clearance, also Hey Farm Saddlery (Discount Saddlery)has quality brands at good prices. Horsatack if you have a store near you. Old Dairy Saddlery often has sales. On the continent, they always had massive Decathlon stores, assume they are still going; I bought some great cheap stuff there when in France.

There are decathlons here in the uk now. If you are flying into malaga t he fe is a big decathlon with horse stuff right next to the aiort

I agree about Equestrian Clearance, they are good & quite cheap.

www.fasttackdirect.co.uk are also very cheap, www.derbyhouse.co.uk sometimes have some good deals.

I find Robinsons relatively expensive.

I like robinsons. I'm 5ft6 size 10 in normal bottoms and have to have their childrens size so its super cheap and i find them incredibly comfy. I paid just under £20 a pair for mine before i had my son and they're still going strong and fit extremely well.

Decathlon aren't too bad either if you have a store near you.

We use Equestrian Clearance and Hope Valley Saddlery - both sell top quality gear at a reasonable price. Robinsons just cheap.

For boots we'd rather buy in a good tack shop because brands do have slightly different sizes/fittings. If you try on then you'll know they are both comfortable, appropriate for the type of riding you'll be doing and lightweight for the flight.
