The tack room
So I've got a load of purple stuff from DD's new pony that I want to ebay.

Do you think I should put it on as a job lot or sell it separately?
The excessive purpleness includes a purple leather bridle and martingale, purple headcollar, purple draw reins and girth attachment, purple (never used) lunging cavesson, purple muzzle (the kind that you use to restrict grazing), purple sweat rug, purple fleece rug, purple dressage style girth and two purple numnahs. It is all to fit a 12hh pony, though the rugs are a bit big - better for a 12.2-13hh.
I'm not sure what to do really, I guess the postage if I put everything on together will be quite alot. But equally, don't know if I can be bothered to sell everything individually, and some of it may not sell anyway. Do you think there is someone out there with a thing for purple?
marialuisa · 02/03/2012 15:32
I can assure you there is a market for this stuff......If I didn't know better I would think you had bought DD's friend's pony, poor thing's entire wardrobe is purple and yellow. Is none of it useful as spares or are you already drowning?
I'd figure out the postage costs and then make a decision or do you know if your pony club is having a bring and buy tack sale any time soon? You'd definitely get rid of it to 9 year old girls with pocket money.

I can't face using the purple bridle ever again, even as an emergency spare (got him a lovely plain black leather one now ) and I don't use a cavesson for lunging. He also came with a wardrobe of 9 rugs, most of which are a size too big unfortunately so I'm going to have to clean and sell the majority. He was a seriously pampered pony - more of a pet I think.
I think I'll just have to get stuck in researching postage and taking photos this weekend. Just have to try not to go purple-blind...
BigFatSAGGYHairyBastard · 02/03/2012 21:34
Ooh, what size type and brand are the rugs please?
roadkillbunny · 02/03/2012 21:58
There is a huge market for this kind of thing and it will sell but I would put it in separate lots, maybe grouping a few of the things together like bridle, martingale, draw reins as one and girth and numnahs as another and then the rugs, headcollar, muzzle and lunging cavesson separately to maximise your chance of selling them quickly.
Pity I am completely skint right now due to losing income being injured as I really need a pony lunge cavesson and would have it off you, just on the off chance how much would you consider selling that for?
Butkin · 02/03/2012 22:20
Definitely sell them individually I'm afraid. Also make sure you give measurements for the rugs rather than saying for a xxx sized pony as that is what people will search for.
Check out "completed listings" on Ebay to see what people actually pay before posting them up though - rather than just what people are asking.
Also offer "combine postage" for people who buy more than one item ie say you'll invoice them when working out the exact postage (plus something for packaging/time) of the combined items.
We love purple. It is DD's colour as well and she wears purple sweatshirt and helmet cover (with her name in pink) when she rides. She's also just bought a purple Cottage Craft headcollar and lead rope for one of her ponies.
PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 03/03/2012 09:24
oooooooh! my dd's pony is 12.2 and her show colour is purple, how much would you be after for the rugs?
Callisto · 03/03/2012 13:35
Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions. The rugs are all 5ft, but not all are purple. I'll have to have a look at them all again and let you know colours and makes.
The cavesson looks as though it has never been used. It is a fairly dayglo purple though. I've no idea what it is worth really. Let me do some research.
BigFatSAGGYHairyBastard · 06/03/2012 21:16
I'd possibly be interested in 5ft rugs, if you let me know what you have.
Callisto · 07/03/2012 08:23
I will, I promise Sags. I just need to get round to doing it.

There are two members on EE (www.enlightenedequitation.com) who love purple and pink. You would probably have to join to advertise but they have a very lively wanted/for sale section.
