Dd12 and her friend, have just gone for a hack on their own. Friend has downgraded to a slightly safer pony, dd is on her not very bright new forest. The safe pony will keep Newfie sensible, and she is by no means dangerous, but quite frankly I'm bricking it!! Confused

Oooh, well done to them both, and you for letting them.DD1 and I were talking about this on a hack this morning and I was debating when she could go off with a friend. She is only 8 so we've got a while to wait yet.

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 02/01/2012 14:12

Well they are back, and in one piece! I'm not sure I can go through that again!

Glad all is well. I sat in the car at the yard for 2 hours when DD first went out with friends "adult free".....just in case, you know?

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 02/01/2012 15:51

I solved the problem of worrying about dd! Second trip of the day, I sent her with my iPhone! I spent the whole time worrying about that instead! Grin

Those of you who have iphones, have you seen this? horse rider S.O.S. It would put a lot of minds at rest Smile.

The weird thing is that these days i can't physically bring myself to hack out without a mobile, yet I remember going out hacking with friends for hours around the age of 10-12years with no adults in sight (once right in the middle of a phesant shoot!) - don't know how my Mum coped!

CatPussRoastingByAnOpenFire · 03/01/2012 12:39

Dappleton, we used to hack down the inside lane of the A12 when I was a kid! It sends me into palpitations just thinking about it!

That horse rider SOS thing has got 3 reviews and they're all crap LOL!

Pixel · 09/01/2012 20:27

Oh dear! Blush well I don't have an iphone so I know nothing about apps.

CalamityKate · 10/01/2012 10:41

It would have been a brilliant idea Pixel

We know how you feel - our DD (8) went hacking for 1 1/2 hours in a local forest with a little friend for the first time in December.

We were on foot but of course within a couple of mins they were out of sight.

We were very pleased when they came back safely but not so happy when they announced that they had swapped ponies after about an hour "just to see how they felt" !

MitchierInge · 10/01/2012 12:05

it's a weird feeling isn't it - mine (usually so nervous) hates hacking but somehow when I was in hospital she was happy to hack along a main road and up the high street to the co-op for sweets, leaving her pony in the car park with some random and tell me all about it, safe from my intervention

Mirage · 10/01/2012 13:20

I could have done with a tracking device on DD1 [8] last week. She went hunting with a friend and her daughter-first time out for her and didn't come home for 4.5 hours. I wasn't worried as both she and pony are sensible, but would have liked to have known where she was.

Mitchy! Shock

My dd sometimes goes out on her own!!!!!!!!

She loves it- and comes back so relaxed and happy. I, on the other hand.......!
