In the last 2 nights I know of the following things stolen from yards

of 3 different people,

42 bags of Liverpool wood pellets

2 gates (thankfully no ponies in field)

1 brand new Ivor williams, silver, wheel & hitch locked.

This is all from near Southampton..... Flipping thriving **

Awful isn't it?

There was a spate of gate thefts here a couple of years back. Practically every single gate in the area was stolen. Of course if scrap yards had to account for all of the metal they melt down this sort of theiving would stop. I fear that bedding and feed thefts will be on the increase this winter though.

As I left the livery yard the other night, having turned all lights off, shut barn door etc, I saw a visiting instructor enter and go into the tack room (locked with numeric code keypad). I can't think of a single reason why he would go in there - the girl he teaches isn't stabled in there and she would have no reason to know the door code (other barn has a different code).

I reported it to the yo and hope she investigates. I have wracked my brains but can't come up with any legitimate reason for him to a) have the door code and b) go into the barn itself never mind the tack room. He is known for being slightly dodgy.
