Just stunning, love Friesians!

MuddyMare · 12/10/2011 05:33

What are Friesians like to ride? I've always drooled over them but purely on looks as have never actually sat on one.

Callisto · 12/10/2011 08:28

Nope, it doesn't do it for me I'm afraid - too much hair, and what's going on with that head carraige?

AlpinePony · 12/10/2011 08:32

Psssst. Much, much cheaper in The Netherlands. Should you decide to flex your wallet I can give you some reliable studs - last time I enquired, transport to mid-wales from here was 350ish + VAT. You'd still have enough change left over for a Stubben and possibly even a second hand Ivor Evans! Wink

SemperUbiSubUbi · 12/10/2011 12:16

I like to look at Friesians, They are beautiful!

Like Callisto they are too hairy for me. I have only sat on one once though and had a little walk and trot, it was weird, head too high and too bouncy for my liking.

I think I would have this years HOYS Supreme here Grin

Booboostoo · 12/10/2011 13:56

6-8k for that horse??? Why? Is it 2k because she is black and another 2k because she has a long mane and tail?

Doesn't do it for me at all I am afraid. Her walk is terrible (looks more like a jog), she has more muscle under her neck than over, not shown in canter which I imagine is because she takes off and no useful info on the advert, e.g. what is she like to hack, what is she like in traffic, has she ever competed in anything, will she jump, will she load, what is she like with the farrier, etc.

Pixel · 12/10/2011 14:54

Sorry don't really care for friesians, they remind me of giraffes!

Debs75 · 12/10/2011 15:13

I love fresians, the more hair the better. i can't stand hogged manes.

The only thing better than a friesian would be <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=shire+horse+images&um=1&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=685&tbm=isch&tbnid=rEosT71Zf9pDhM:&imgrefurl=www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-566337/Pictured-Duke-6ft-5in-Shire-horse-Britains-tallest-hes-scared-mice.html&docid=Q2eCUYc82vGd-M&w=468&h=312&ei=C6CVTqy7IYi78gP2sdXuCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=493&vpy=131&dur=54&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=144&ty=126&page=2&tbnh=135&tbnw=192&start=12&ndsp=13&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:12" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this giant

Butkin · 12/10/2011 16:31

Sorry don't like the Fresian at all but good that all horses have their fans.

I'm more with Semper's choice although suprised it was Supreme.

My personal favourite is Alastair Hood's Racehorse to Riding Horse owned by Jane Williams. He is gorgeous.

CalamityKate · 16/10/2011 16:05

Not over keen.

To me they're neither one thing or the other; they're long like thoroughbreds, but stocky like a Cob. They don't seem in proportion. Plus all that horrible hair.... I can't look at a Friesian without wanting to pull its mane.

If I wanted something hairy and Cobby I'd buy a Cob, and if I wanted something tallish and long, I'd buy something Thoroughbreddy-er.

And I agree with Booboostoo it's not a great advert. Why would you not include video of its canter?

Pixel · 16/10/2011 19:39

Ah, I feel a bit mean now, picking apart the OP's dream horse!

In my dream world (the one where I'm a fearless and expert rider) if I wanted a bit of flash I'd probably pick an andalusian or a nice arab (the chunkier sort, not the weedy ones), but in real life what I'd really want is an Exmoor pony or maybe a blanket spot appaloosa. I did see an ad the other day for a pony and thought he looked like he should belong to me, you know how they do sometimes? horses&ca=&st=&at=3&ag=97515262175HHO:288687&pg=1&si=CAT1*0&sr=h&cr=1&kwe=Stolen horses&ref=http%3a%2f%2fwww.horseandhound.co.uk%2fforums%2f&cc=2 he has a really sweet look about him

Pixel · 16/10/2011 19:41

Still no good. Oh well, maybe I can just show you the pic from the ad

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 16/10/2011 19:43

I'm with you OP, I'd definitely be interested in her.
Fresians, IMO, are a bit of a marmite horse and you're either a fan or not. I personally like them, although to me they're kind of a play horse.

Fourstickymitts · 17/11/2011 20:34

I really must stop starting threads and then forgetting about them. How rude! Sorry. Blush

I've never sat on a Friesians either, but I admire them for their looks. So, no offense taken Pixel, etc. And I agree, the one in the advert is pretty pricey, but the place that's selling it very close to my end of the world, so I found their website tempting - in a non serious way. Smile Also saw an advert for another Friesian horse, in Scotland too, for half the price a couple of days ago. I did mention I wasn't serious, didn't I? Grin

Alpinepony - you can really save that much by going to the studs in Europe? Wow. Not that I'm serious, but that's worth noting considers ways of twisting DH arm and wallet if a winning lottery ticket every comes my way.

I think, to be honest, my lardy generous bottom would be better suited to a cob, or similar sturdy creature. I had a TBxID cross previously and she was fabulous, sturdy and very sane.

I think Arabs are lovely, but never been tempted (my aunt had several and they were all slightly batty) and same opinion of thoroughbreds (same aunt had TB - also batty, bit of a recurring them there Hmm). So maybe the aunt's choice taste in nut job horses with a spirited personality than the breeds, to be fair. Smile

Um, I am clearly an outsider who knows nothing about horses, so forgive the intrusion...

However, I had to post just to point out that 'horse porn' has a very different and unsavoury connotations- in other words, I clicked on this thread and was very disappointed indeed Grin

shufflebum · 17/11/2011 20:42

Grin wondered how long it would take! tethersend!
