Does a welsh mountain pony, and her 5 month old foal, end up on the wrong side of an operational (2 strands of white tape) mains electric fence, without the fence being down or broken in any way, and all the posts still in the ground?
If anyone has any idea, Id love to know, because I dont have a bloody clue!!

Its the hairy beastie squeeze - the tape doesn't carry enough charge to make it v painful once they start getting hairy, and with a full mane, they can stick their head under and pull up. I watched dponies field mate do this with a neck rug last winter. Now the field has electric rope, which gives a lot more kick

Ive had this with Shetties before, (I actually have, in the past, had to plait electric tape into the little buggers manes to keep them from doing that) Its just random that the posts are all still in!

have you moved them? It was all very posh post and rail when I met Alfie (swoon), he must have changed a lot already.

Mine gets the wrong side - but she's 17.2hh and jumps.

She let out a herd 2 weeks ago when she sat on the fence - - thereby fusing it and letting loose ALL the horses from an adjacent yard.

I ran away and pretended I didn't have a danny what it was all about.

They didnt go far, just stood on the other side of the fence mooning after what they had lost! We have moved, not far from the churchyard. Its post and rail around the edge, electric partitions. I dont know how the cow does it, I was there today, poo picking for England, and I turned my back for 2 seconds, there was a bit of whinnying, and she was on the other side again! I reckon she is like the witch in Chorlton and The Wheelies! She just disappears and pops up somewhere else!
Alfie has changed, hes mainly white nowadays, hes a big boy too, and quite randy bitey!

My old horse once leaned on a wire fence and once it was part down proceeded to stand on it before letting the other horses out. I saw all this as I was hurtling up teh field screeching "bad pony" at her. I had to round up 10 horses on my own with one headcollar and several helpful but rather disgruntled farmers

We have a new chapter of the game today. We are playing 'got out of the field, but can't possibly get back in, therefore I will stand here in full sunlight getting dehydrated and sunburned until you let me back in!

We had a pony who managed to shimmy under a post and rail fence by lying on his side and sort of crabbing himself along. He never broke a rail and my mum used to get calls saying "Mrs So & So, your pony is in my garden... It was a standing joke with the neighbours luckily but used to drive my dad mad as he then had to put another layer of fence in.

Current pony will just walk through and ping the electric fence, especially now as his coat is getting thick, and can't possibly walk back over it, I have to undo it and move it away in case it bites him. Bloody nuisance. My old dhorse used to go up to the battery and work out if it was new or old by the sound and then walk through accordingly. He soon stopped when he tried that with a new mains powered fence....

Well, I think Ive got her contained! I added an extra strand in the middle and attached it to a seperate energiser. She did get out once, but I think she may well have got a jolt from both at once, because she was quite reluctant to lead back through, and hasnt been out since!

I have actually seen a oversized (15.2HH) highland gelding slip under electric fence tape which was about 15-18inches off the ground. I would never had believed it, if he hadn't done it while I was looking!! My friends foal tried to climb over the wheel barrow while she was mucking out! They are much more flexable than they would have us believe!!

My shetland once got through 5 strands of electric tape!! The fence was perfectly intact!
