Any ideas what I can do with a load of old horsey mags?

My dad has been having a clearout of his house (about time too it's even more of a tip than mine) and he turned up the other week with an enormous box of all my old Horse and Pony magazines, at least a hundred of them. I've had a bit of a read through for old times sake (still saddened by the announcement that Silent King was dead, I was really shocked at the time) and now I don't know what to do with them. I haven't got anywhere to put them, they are in bags in the living room atm, but they are over 30 years old and it seems a real shame to throw them in the bin. No one else is going to want them either though are they?

If I had any space I'd keep them and read them all again in another 30 years. It's a bit like finding an old copy of Jill's Gymkhana, you just have to read it but it's a sort of guilty pleasure!

Have you tried freecycle?

Where are you Pixel? Would it cost a fortune for me to get courier/post do you think? My dd would love them but we are Cheshire x

Hmm, Brighton I'm afraid, quite a long way from Cheshire. I've no idea how much couriers cost. I could post a bundle if you like, that wouldn't be too much would it? Tbh though, I'm not sure how much use they would be to someone younger, some of the advice is a bit out of date! I was thinking more of the nostalgia thing as there are articles about horses and ponies old biddies some of us might remember from our youth, eg. Pavlov and Peanuts, Ryan's son etc. Plus it's quite amusing looking at the ads for 'new-fangled' things like those multicoloured Wintec saddles (remember them? I never met a person who bought one, I have a theory there is a warehouse full of them somewhere ).
I'll post some if you think your dd might be interested. It'll whittle the pile down a bit and stop dh glaring at them!

Are there adverts for jute rugs? And canvas New Zealand rugs? And lots of black and white pics of horses in drop nosebands?

Oh yes jute rugs galore. I love new jute rugs, they smell lovely for about 5 mins, after that they smell of wee! Remember how we used to spend ages on cold nights artfully arranging blankets underneath so they folded back into a point? If you got it wrong your pony would be wearing a long skirt by the morning. New Zealand rugs too, though they are starting to mention 'self-righting' rugs (the same rug without the surcingle.). The letters are interesting, people complaining about having to pay £5 for a riding lesson!

Thanks Pixel, you are probably right re: out of date/nostalgia? Many thanks for the kind offer though - have you thought about a local toy museum maybe?
