Fancy Dress

Ds and Dpony are going to dponys first show (just a tiny pony only thing so he gets to start getting used to them) and are doing fancy dress plus some gymkhana games if dpony behaves.

They are going as St George and the dragon - but I've just realised I need to wear something in line with that while leading don't I? Any ideas ?

good thinking - I think I've run out of creativity after making a dragon costume out of bubble wrap and a fleece blanket. Will go and look at my wardrobe to see if I can put something together that won't be ruined by hanging around in a field

What do damsels wear? One of those pointy hats with a floaty scarf on I expect, what are they called? Something beginning with w?

Perhaps you should go for a slightly singed look, as if George only just got there in time .

Actually I might be thinking of wimples, but that's nuns.

I like the idea of being singed! We have had a few experiences with fancy dress, and it's originality that wins. Knights and cowboys are quite common, you have to add a twist.
Best I've ever seen was a small coloured Shetland, wearing a lace nightie, a mob cap, wire specs and cardboard fangs, with it's rider in a red cloak.
There was also a welsh a in full cardboard fire engine, with a blue light on it's headpiece and foil pie dish wheels on it's legs!

DS wanted to be a knight, so its his choice. His girlfriends pony is going as a teddy bears picnic

Well, I can confess that there are some cringeworthy pictures of me in a ball frock, with pointed medevil style-ie hat and 16 hh dressed as dragon. Friend and her horse was were going to be George and noble steed. Noble steed unfortunately went lame before the event, which left me with the dragon.

I think the wellies under the frock kind of spoiled the effect, tbh.

Damsel in distress is very easily do-able.

I should also mention that the dragon costume scared the bejesus out of the competition. Much snorting was involved.

I went as his liege knight in the end - we came 4th, which wasn't bad. I'll make some tweaks before next weekend.

But the really important thing was that 4 yr old pony who has never (well, certainly not since breaking) been to a show, been on a lorry once etc, didn't bat an eyelid at the whole thing, loaded perfectly, stood still in lorry, enjoyed the gymkhana games etc. He'd have given handy pony a shot (fancy dress was in that ring so he saw all the stuff), but it was too hot for all of us.

Well done to CMOT and her knight in shining armour. I'm always impressed with fancy dress competitions. People think we make an effort (top end showing) but it is nothing compared to the hours spent making costumes!
